Job Title: Arborist – Contract (Part-Time, ~15 hrs/week)

Work Arrangement:

Remote/home-based with regular on-site visits across the Greater Toronto Area. Candidates must be located within accessible commuting distance for site assessments and meetings. Attendance at site visits or office meetings may be required with 24 hours’ notice.

Contract Term:

1 year, with potential extensions (up to 2 additional years).

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Arborist to provide professional landscape arborist design services for multiple design and construction projects within a public transit environment. The role involves both remote work and frequent on-site assessments. You will collaborate closely with architects, engineering teams, and consultants to ensure safe, compliant, cost-effective tree-related design solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Perform detailed tree assessments and prepare reports covering tree protection, replacement, removals, and risk evaluation.

Collaborate with landscape architects and design teams to confirm appropriate design concepts.

Conduct alternative analyses and value-engineering reviews to support efficient, maintainable solutions.

Complete arborist design calculations and ensure compliance with codes, standards, and design requirements.

Prepare design drawings using MicroStation and contribute to specifications.

Participate in multidisciplinary coordination to produce fully integrated design deliverables.

Conduct technical/quality checks on all arborist-related documentation.

Sign and seal drawings/documents as required for permits and bid submissions.

Review shop drawings, manage addenda/contract changes, and support construction-phase queries.

Perform regular site visits and submit compliance and progress reports.

Maintain updated design documentation and provide final as-built information.

Maintain ISAO registration throughout the duration of the assignment.

Software & Equipment Requirements

Must use personal computer (Windows + Wi-Fi) to remotely access systems.

Must have access to Microsoft Teams for virtual meetings.

Safety vest, hard hat, glasses, and reflective bands will be provided.

Must bring own CSA-approved safety shoes .

Qualifications

Minimum 10 years of related arborist experience, including work in transit or infrastructure design projects.

Mandatory: Registration with the International Society of Arboriculture – Ontario (ISAO) .

Proficiency with MicroStation, Microsoft Excel, and Word .
