Job Details

This position requires a dedicated Registered Nurse to join the Stepdown Neuro unit. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in neuroscience nursing and a passion for patient care.

Shift

Night Shift: 3x12-Hour (19:00 - 07:30)

Experience Requirements

Minimum of 2 years of experience in Stepdown Neuro or PCU nursing required.

Specific Neuro experience is required, with a strong understanding of NIHSS protocols.

Preferred prior charge experience.

Patient Care Requirements

Experience with a patient ratio of 1:4.

Ability to float to different units as needed.

Expected daily census of 29 patients in a 29-bed unit.

Patient demographic: Adults and Geriatrics.

Clinical Skills

IV therapy and phlebotomy, with experience managing ports and arterial lines preferred.

Knowledge of the following neuro-specific conditions and procedures:

Aneurysms and repairs

Craniotomy

CVA (Cerebrovascular Accidents)

Intracranial bleeds

Lumbar drains

Pre/Post neurosurgery care

Seizure disorders

Spinal cord injuries

Traumatic Brain Injury

Experience in respiratory management, including CPAP/BIPAP.

IV insulin protocols and management of cardiac drips, including titration.

Certifications Required

ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)

BLS (Basic Life Support)

NIHSS Certification (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)

Charting System

Experience with Epic charting system is required.

Additional Information

24 hours of orientation will be provided.

Up to 6 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule period.

Interdisciplinary support includes IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, and pharmacy.

Participation in isolation precautions and telemetry monitoring is expected.

EVD monitoring experience is required (hard stop).
