The Halifax Grammar School (Grammar) is seeking an experienced, part-time Library Technician.
The Library Technician assists in the day-to-day operations of a school library, assuming operational responsibility in the absence of the librarian, and providing technical/clerical support for the librarian.

Duties: Collection Management: Assists with processing new books Catalogue books and audio-visual materials Supports weeding and deselection of materials Library Operations & Management: Facilitates the use of the library; provides information regarding library/media materials available, reference materials, and library procedures; assists students and staff in material searches and book selections Assists with library operations, including circulation, shelving, and maintaining a welcoming and organized library environment, inspecting incoming materials for damage, need for mending, etc Assists with inventory of library books and materials; reports and mend missing and damaged materials and books, and recommends withdrawals/additions to the collection Maintains accurate library records and statistics May provide notification and follow up on overdue materials Performs a variety of clerical support duties for the Librarian as assigned Assists the librarian and assumes responsibility for the library when the librarian is absent Technology Integration: Assists with the integration of technology effectively into library services, including helping to maintain online catalogues, databases, digital resources, and learning management systems Maintains and troubleshoots library technology equipment May promotes digital literacy skills and responsible technology use among students Instructional Services: May supervise students using the library, maintaining discipline as necessary May serve as an information source to students and teachers regarding books, reading lists, new publications, etc.
May assist in providing basic instruction in library skills School Community Engagement: May assist with planning and implementing special library programs and fundraisers such as book fairs and reading encouragement activities.
May assist in creating physical and digital displays, bulletin boards or other promotional materials.
Qualifications: Diploma in Library and Information Technology.
Experience working or volunteering as a Library Technician in a school environment would be an asset.
The successful candidate will be subject to passing and maintaining a Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector check.
