The Team:

The Onboarding Experience team is committed to creating a user-friendly loan application journey for our customers. We aim to ensure that borrowers can swiftly and effortlessly complete their loan funding tasks, ultimately driving our growth by enhancing user satisfaction and operational efficiency.

As a Senior Software Engineer on this team, you will collaborate across various functions including Engineering, Product, and Operations, contributing to both ongoing and new projects. Your work will prioritize quality, testability, and maintainability, all while keeping the end users at the forefront.

Your Impact:

Engage in all facets of platform and product development, from web interfaces and third-party API integrations to backend business logic.

Efficiently advance both existing and new projects, always with a focus on user experience.

Make architectural enhancements to bolster software reliability and code maintainability.

Play a key role in building our engineering team culture and ensuring Upstart is a fantastic workplace.

Maintain close communication with cross-functional partners, ensuring stakeholders are well-informed.

Minimum Qualifications:

7+ years of professional experience in software development for scalable public or consumer-facing products, with a strong emphasis on user experience and a product-oriented mindset.

Ability to grasp and articulate complex requirements to both technical and non-technical audiences.

A growth mindset, embracing challenges and eager to explore new technologies.

Strong communication skills, capable of simplifying technical discussions for broader audiences.

A proven track record of mentoring peers and valuing constructive feedback.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with full-stack development technologies, particularly Ruby on Rails, React, AWS, Docker, and GitHub Actions using CI/CD methods.

Familiarity with AI/ML model integration, especially in financial contexts.

Background in customer support technology, such as contact center platforms or conversational AI systems.

A proactive, ownership-oriented mindset in decision-making.

Passion for enhancing user experience driven by best practices and metrics.

Comfortable with remote collaboration tools, valuing teamwork through regular synchronous meetings.

Position Location: This position may be performed remotely or in our offices located in San Mateo, Columbus, or Austin.

Travel Requirements: Primarily remote work, with occasional in-person collaboration sessions that occur once or twice a quarter for 2-4 days.

Base Salary Range: $163,600 - $226,400 USD.
