Position Title: Spring 2026 Internship – Community Engagement Department
Type: Unpaid Internship
Schedule: Part-time, unpaid ten-week position starting Monday, January 26, 2026, and ending Friday, April 10, 2026
Notes on Schedule: Must be available weekdays for a minimum of 4 hours per week; specific days/times will be agreed upon with the supervisor.
Location: Ohio History Center, Columbus, OH
Reports to: Andi Mocharski: Community Engagement Coordinator

About Ohio History Connection
The Ohio History Connection, formerly the Ohio Historical Society, is a statewide history organization with the mission to spark discovery of Ohio's stories. Chartered in 1885, OHC provides history services for Ohio and its citizens focused on preserving and sharing the state's history. This includes housing the state historic preservation office, the official state archives, local history office, and managing more than 50 sites and museums across Ohio.
Summary
This internship provides hands-on experience in community engagement and program coordination. Interns will assist with outreach, event planning, and administrative tasks that support Near Neighbor Community Outreach programs and strategic initiatives aimed at building strong community partnerships.
Essential Functions
· Supports outreach programs and events such as the SPARK membership program, CML storytelling partnership, and community tabling.
· Assist with compiling annual calendars of key events and outreach activities.
· Help research and document community needs, demographics, and engagement trends.
· Participate in planning NN programs such as Neighbor Trick or treat, CML Storytelling Partnership, and Museums for All initiatives.
· Coordinate communication with internal teams (Marketing, Development, Events) and external partners.
· Contribute to evaluation and reporting by collecting feedback and preparing impact summaries.
Required Education, Skills, Experience
· Must be enrolled in an academic program OR a recent graduate (within one year).
· Preferred majors: Community Outreach, Public History, Museum Studies, Nonprofit Management, Communications, or related fields.
· Familiarity with Microsoft 365 and virtual meeting platforms (Zoom, Teams).
· Strong research and writing skills; ability to synthesize data into actionable insights.

· Detail-oriented with organizational and time-management abilities.
Other Requirements
· Must complete a background check and internship onboarding paperwork.
· Must create an account and log internship hours via Track It Forward.
· Must attend professional development sessions and present at the Internship Experience Summit.
Education and Experience Outcomes
By the end of the internship, students will:
· Understand best practices in community engagement and event coordination.
· Gain experience in strategic planning and partnership development.
· Learn to evaluate program impact and communicate outcomes effectively.
