JOB PURPOSE
As Senior Journalist Team Manager for BBC News Indonesian Service, you will lead a key area of output, ensuring editorial excellence and audience relevance. You’ll oversee content creation, reporting, and production, while managing selection and compilation of material. The role involves planning and optimising resources, driving innovation, and maintaining high standards. With formal managerial responsibility, you will inspire and develop teams to deliver impactful journalism for Indonesian audiences.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:
Lead and manage a team of journalists, ensuring high editorial, linguistic, and production standards across all platforms.
Plan and oversee content creation, commissioning stories, briefing reporters, and driving innovative, multiplatform treatments.
Ensure all output is fact-checked, legally compliant, and aligned with BBC editorial policy, responding swiftly to breaking news.
Represent the Indonesian Service in wider BBC editorial meetings, fostering collaboration and sharing content effectively.
Line-manage staff, including performance reviews, rota management, recruitment support, and deputising for the Service Editor when required.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
Full fluency in Bahasa Indonesia, with strong writing and editing skills; ability to translate accurately between Bahasa and English.
Proven editorial judgment and production expertise, underpinned by substantial broadcast journalism experience and creative storytelling ability.
Strong leadership and resource management skills, including staff, budgets, and technical facilities, with a focus on cost-effective output.
Ability to work collaboratively across teams, resolve conflicts, and adapt under pressure to meet deadlines and changing priorities.
Commitment to BBC values, including diversity, compliance with editorial policy, and understanding of health and safety in broadcasting.
