About the Internship
The Port of New York and New jersey is the gateway to one of the most concentrated consumer markets in North America and the largest port on the East Coast. Through its network of terminals, railroads, roads, warehouses, and distribution centers, the Port Authority keeps the world's global trade industry moving. The Physical Plant unit at New Jersey Marine Terminal (NJMT) is equipped with skilled personnel dedicated to ensuring optimal operability and maintenance of Port assets.
Responsibilities
Assist the Facility Engineers in addressing day-to-day technical issues and concerns that impact tenants and/or facility operations.
Assist in reviewing Engineering drawings and documentation to incorporate facility's comments.
Attend meetings and inspections for facility projects.
Assist the Facility Engineer in project development and design.
Assist in gathering data related to facility environmental, operations, and asset management. Update the databases using excel, ArcGIS, Maximo, and/or relevant programs.
Lead meetings with Facility Managers, gather information regarding critical business functions, systems, and vendors and gain an understanding of potential business continuity
Assist in preparation of presentation or white paper report for special projects assigned.
Conduct site visits to collect project data and prepare status reports on investigations and complete work.
Present a report on work that was completed during the internship.
Interns may be given immediate, short-term assignments based on operational needs at the port.
Minimum Qualifications
Enrollment at a college or university at the time of the internship
Major in Civil, Mechanical, or other engineering related majors or related discipline
Must be able to drive and possess a valid driver's license
Desired Qualifications
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent problem solving and analytical skills.
Open-minded and able to work with a team
Able to operate Microsoft Office tools such as Outlook, Word, Power Point and Excel
Other computer skills: AutoCAD, ArcGIS.
Internship Details
The start date will be Thursday, May 28, 2026
The internship will last approximately 12 weeks, ending on Friday, August 21, 2026
This is a full-time internship (5 days per week at 7.25 hours per day)
In accordance with Port Authority policy, this position permits interns to work remotely a maximum of one day per week. In person collaboration is essential to how the Port Authority conducts business and regular in-office days or team collaboration days may be required depending on business needs. Some internships may require interns to be fully in-person.

Compensation & Benefits
The hourly rate range is $18.07 to $30.31 (the exact rate will be determined by internship type and rising school year)
