Day Shift - 7.5 Hours (United States of America)
This role is responsible for reviewing medical records to validate ICD-10 coding and DRG assignments, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and appropriate reimbursement. The Coordinator will support clinical documentation integrity and ensure alignment with regulatory and organizational standards.
The DRG Coordinator also plans and organizes the clinical reimbursement function within the Health Information Management (HIM) Department in accordance with hospital policies and applicable regulations, including DOH, JCAHO, and HIPAA. Strong organizational, management, and communication skills are essential.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform audits of medical records to validate principal and secondary diagnoses (including MCCs/CCs) and procedure codes
Ensure compliance with coding guidelines, Coding Clinic references, and regulatory requirements
Apply ICD-10-CM/PCS expertise and clinical knowledge to support audit findings
Document audit determinations, appeals, and rationale using auditing systems
Review and validate DRG assignments and proper sequencing of diagnoses and procedures
Meet established productivity and quality standards
Assist with training and mentoring staff, including performance monitoring and feedback
Maintain current coding knowledge and complete required CEUs
Participate in ongoing training and departmental meetings
Requirements:
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a Business or Health-related field preferred
RHIA, RHIT, or CCS certification required
Minimum of five (5) years of progressive coding experience in an acute care setting, with strong MS-DRG coding and validation knowledge
Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
Experience with Invision, CompCare, or SMART preferred
Knowledge of N-Coder or 3M encoder systems required
Strong organizational, management, and communication skills
Salary Range: $70,000 – $85,000
