Position Summary

The Manager of Technical Projects is responsible for the strategic planning, coordination, and execution of technical initiatives across the fleet, including retrofitting, maintenance projects, and drydock activities, ensuring alignment with operational goals, safety standards, and budgetary constraints. This role serves as a key technical authority, managing cross-functional collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, including but not limited to Fleet Operations, Procurement, Hotel Operations, Vendors, and Contractors, while overseeing project scopes, timelines, budgets, and quality to enhance yacht efficiency and guest experience. It supports multi-year CapEx planning, provides expert advisory input during emergency response, and maintains a backlog of enhancement opportunities based on industry trends.

Key Responsibilities

Fleet Project & Program Leadership

Leads and oversees technical projects like retrofitting, fleet enhancements, and CapEx initiatives, including dry docks.

Supports the Fleet Operations team in case of major repairs.

Evaluates project requests from yachts and shoreside leadership, defining scope, priorities, and execution strategies in line with brand objectives.

Develops and manages detailed project plans, timelines, and budgets from concept through delivery.

Technical & Asset Oversight

Oversees refurbishment and enhancement of yacht technical systems, machinery, and fleet infrastructure to support guest experience and operational excellence.

Manages technical system upgrades, including retrofitting and efficiency improvements impacting operations, safety, and regulatory compliance.

Leads technical equipment and component programs, including specification reviews, lifecycle planning, procurement coordination with vendors, and standardization across the fleet.

Provides advisory input on technical upgrade strategies and long-term CapEx implications, leveraging marine expertise to support informed decision-making.

Technical Design, Engineering Integration & Quality Assurance

Serves as the primary liaison between fleet operations, technical consultants, suppliers, and shipyards.

Ensures engineering design intent aligns with vessel technical specifications, class and regulatory requirements, and operational performance standards.

Conduct technical inspections and quality audits throughout the project lifecycle to verify compliance with engineering standards, specifications, and approved drawings.

Oversee fleet-wide technical quality audits related to refit and retrofit outcomes, ensuring system integrity, performance, and long-term operational reliability.

Public Health, Safety & Compliance

Ensure refurbishment and upgrading projects are aligned with public health, safety and compliance requirements.

Drive project and upgrade alignment when public health, safety, or compliance standards are not being fully met.

Financial Planning & Reporting

Support multi-year fleet technical CapEx planning, forecasting, and cost control initiatives.

Track expenditures and ensure financial discipline across all technical refurbishment projects.

Prepare executive-level project updates, risk assessments, and progress reports.

Qualifications & Experience

Extensive experience leading technical refit, engineering upgrade, or capital project programs within luxury cruise, yacht, maritime, or shipbuilding environments

Proven track record managing drydocks, technical retrofits, and in-service engineering projects at fleet level

Strong marine engineering or technical operations background with deep understanding of ship systems, regulatory compliance, and operational reliability

Master’s degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or a related maritime discipline, or significant shipboard experience at Ship Service Engineer level or above

Demonstrated experience working with naval architects, marine engineers, shipyards, classification societies, equipment manufacturers, and technical contractors

Ability to balance luxury design ambition with operational practicality and long-term fleet asset value

Advanced project and program management capability in complex, operational environments

Strong financial expertise in capital planning and investment management, including multi-year Capex forecasting, budget ownership, and cost control for technical refurbishment projects

Excellent stakeholder management and cross-functional communication skills

High attention to detail with a strong focus on quality, compliance, and execution.

Working Environment

Shore-based role with frequent interaction with vessels, shipyards, and external partners

Regular travel is required to ships, drydock locations, and project sites.
