Description:
Diversified Systems is searching for a Java Developer to assist with understanding and redeveloping legacy COBOL code in Java. This role is ideal for a more senior developer with extensive knowledge of Java with hands-on full lifecycle implementation experience capable of wearing different hats as needed (solutions consultant, technical lead, project manager). The ideal candidate will possess strong solutions knowledge and have successfully completed integrating business solutions (from conception to completion) using Java to fit the client's needs.
Given successful effort on the primary assignment, additional code rewrite opportunities may be possible.
Responsibilities:
Serve as lead Java developer on primary assignment.
Collaborate with other developers to deliver Java solutions that provide the business-critical functions the legacy COBOL applications currently perform.
Able to utilize current best practices and help OIC establish/refine coding standards.
Work in an agile/iterative development manner to provide regular and routine evidence of progress towards completion.
Write, test, and document application components to successfully deliver work.
Work collaboratively with OIC IT team members and other subject matter experts (e.g., BWC team members) to determine the best solution approach.
Design, code, and implement Java application code.
Adhere to timelines and development goals.
Test the stability and functionality of the application.
Troubleshoot and fix bugs.
Write documents and provide technical training for OIC IT staff.
Maintain the security and integrity of the application software.
Prepare appropriate documentation (e.g., flowcharts, narratives, code comments).
This is a professional level non-supervisory position which will require coordination of programming activities being conducted by the team.
Confer with other business and technical personnel to resolve problems of intent, inaccuracy, or feasibility of computer processing.
Work with necessary personnel to determine if modifications or enhancements are necessary.
Leverage excellent written and verbal communication skills to develop new business process and programming solutions as directed by business and technical stakeholders.
Requirements:
10 years of Industry/professional experience in Java solution development in the Windows environment. (Required).
10 years of experience with Java Persistence API (JPA). (Required).
10 years of SQL. (Required).
10 years of RESTful web services. (Required).
10 years of JUnit. (Required).
Ability to propose, document, and implement software project lifecycle solutions (software and documentation). (Required).
Excellent written and oral communication skills with technical and business teams. (Required).
Experience working with and understanding COBOL code. (Highly desired).
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or related field. (Highly desired).
Experience working with JavaScript frameworks and single-page application (SPA) solutions such as Angular or Blazor. (Highly desired).
Excellent communication and leadership skills both written and oral.
Ability to collaborate with supporting resources across business and/or functional lines.
Have excellent organizational skills, proven analytical, planning, problem solving, and decision-making skills.
Must meet productivity standards, complete work in timely manner and strive to increase productivity.
Strong proficiency in Java (8/11/17+) programming language and Object-Oriented Design (OOD) principles.
Expertise with popular Java frameworks and libraries (e.g., Spring, Spring Boot, Hibernate/JPA).
Experience with building and consuming RESTful APIs and microservices architecture.
Proficiency in database technologies (relational databases like MySQL, Oracle, and Microsoft SQL Server).
Experience with version control systems (Git) and CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, Maven, Gradle).
Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) is highly valued.
Knowledge of JavaScript frameworks and SPA solutions for front-end development such as Angular 4+ is highly desired.
Proficiency working in common, open-source IDEs such as Eclipse and Visual Studio Code.
