2026-2027 Construction Instructor Job Description
A Construction Instructor for Career and Technical Education (CTE) plans and implements curriculum in construction safety, tools, math, and basic trades for grades 9-12. They prepare students for industry certifications and require relevant trade experience plus CTE certification.
Key Responsibilities:
Instruction: Teach construction fundamentals, including safety, blueprint reading, and basic carpentry or electrical skills.
Curriculum Management: Deliver standardized Mississippi CTE curricula, often in partnership with the Mississippi Construction Education Foundation (MCEF).
Lab Safety & Inventory: Maintain a safe classroom/lab environment, ensuring proper use, storage, and inventory of construction tools and materials.
Student Assessment: Evaluate student performance, issue progress reports, and align instruction with industry certification standards (e.g., NCCER).
Career Readiness: Guide students toward employment or higher education, including teaching employability skills.
Other Duties as Assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Licensure: Must hold or be eligible for a 3-year or 5-year CTE endorsement (977) from the Mississippi Department of Education.
Experience: Requires a minimum of one year of full-time occupational experience within the past ten years in the construction industry.
Education: A high school diploma/GED is required; higher education is preferred.
Tech Competency: Must demonstrate technology competency (e.g., IC3 or approved MDE substitute).
Professional Development: Must enroll in the Vocational Instructor Preparation (VIP) program.
Preferred Skills:
Experience teaching construction at the secondary level.
Active NCCER Certified Instructor status.
