Position Overview
Join our dynamic team as a Mid-Level Engineering Technician, where you'll contribute to the modernization of IT systems at Department of Defense locations globally. This role involves installing server racks, IP-based video surveillance cameras, desktop systems, and cabling at military installations.
In this position, you will work collaboratively with other technicians and programmers, implementing standardized tasks while adhering to explicit instructions for more complex projects. Your success and work quality will be routinely evaluated to ensure standards are met.
As a contractor for the U.S. Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC), our focus is on electronic security systems, maintaining munitions centers, and enhancing the audio/video systems in emergency operations centers. Our team’s contributions have garnered recognition, showcasing our commitment to excellence in service delivery.
This role offers the freedom to reside anywhere in the United States while requiring extensive travel.
Flexibility in work hours is necessary, including potential overtime and after-hours commitments based on project needs.
Successful clearance through the DoD Secret security clearance process is required.
Key Responsibilities:
Follow instructions to assemble standard equipment and perform simple repairs on instruments.
Conduct various tests, adjusting and operating equipment, and recording observable data and anomalies.
Maintain accurate records of engineering data, performing calculations and ensuring compliance with acceptance criteria.
Manage the logistics of unpacking and repacking equipment for tests and customer shipments.
Gather, process and present engineering data, adhering to established guidelines and methodologies.
Install CAT 6 cabling and terminate it using the T568B standard.
Perform additional tasks as assigned.
Qualifications for Success:
Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance.
U.S. Citizenship is required.
Ability to secure a Common Access Card (CAC).
Access to all military installations is essential.
Willingness to travel up to 90% of the time, including international trips for extended periods.
Valid U.S. Passport must be obtained within 30 days of employment.
Must hold a valid driver's license.
A High School Diploma or GED is required.
A minimum of 2 years’ relevant experience.
Capable of working independently to meet deadlines and project requirements.
Strong organizational skills for managing multiple tasks effectively.
Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
Able to work in environments with drafts, noise, and temperature variations.
Physical capability to work in various conditions, including climbing and lifting up to 50 lbs.
Familiarity with standard hand tools and power tools.
Preferred Skills:
Active DoD Secret security clearance.
Current U.S. Passport.
Strong ability to learn and troubleshoot effectively.
Experience with digital multimeters and power meters.
Knowledge of hardware mounting techniques and cable terminations.
Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
Basic understanding of intrusion detection and video systems.
Experience in cable installation and testing (Cat 5/6 preferred).
Understanding of server setup and rack installation methodologies.
Knowledge of low voltage control systems and related components.
