Structural Engineer, Level IV-VI

Position Summary

The Structural Engineer Level IV-VI supports planning and scope development for public infrastructure projects within a Bridges & Tunnels environment. This role is responsible for evaluating existing structural conditions, developing conceptual design solutions, performing engineering analyses, and preparing technical documentation that supports project initiation and advancement. The position requires coordination with multidisciplinary engineering staff and participation in project meetings, reporting, and documentation activities.

Key Responsibilities

• Initiate planning and scope development for new structural and infrastructure projects.

• Visit bridge and tunnel sites to assess existing conditions, constraints, and project needs.

• Review technical reports, shop drawings, and as-built drawings to support conceptual design development.

• Develop conceptual designs for modifications to existing structures to accommodate new operational or infrastructure requirements.

• Evaluate structural strengthening needs and identify required additions or modifications to bridge components and related systems.

• Perform engineering calculations and technical analyses in support of structural recommendations.

• Prepare conceptual drawing packages and technical reports describing project background, objectives, design criteria, applicable codes and standards, and recommended solutions.

• Develop preliminary engineer's cost estimates.

• Coordinate with engineering and project stakeholders, participate in meetings, and prepare supporting documentation and reports.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering required.

• Minimum of five years of civil/structural design experience.

• Minimum of five years of experience in structural design analysis, scope development, design development, specification writing, and application of technical standards and design guidelines.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

• Proficiency with Excel, Word, Bluebeam, MicroStation and/or AutoCAD, and PowerPoint.

• Valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in Engineering.

• New York State Professional Engineer (PE) license.

• Familiarity with MTA C&D design procedures.

Compensation

• The good-faith salary range for this position is $60-$65 per hour, depending on experience, qualifications, and client requirements.

• Candidates with greater depth of experience or specialized expertise may fall toward the higher end of the range, and exceptional candidates may be considered for compensation outside of this range, consistent with client budget and company policy.
