Description

Works onsite at City of Oxford special events. Supports the planning and execution of community events, programs, and special activities. This position assists with event setup, guest services, operations, and breakdown to ensure events run smoothly, safely, and professionally. This role requires flexibility, strong customer service skills, and the ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Examples of Duties

•Assist with event setup and breakdown (tables, chairs, tents, signage, equipment)

•Assist with road closures and detours, transporting and placing barricades

•Ability to drive a truck with a trailer, when needed

•Provide excellent customer service to guests, vendors, and participants

•Monitor event areas for safety and cleanliness

•Check-in participants or manage registration tables

•Assist vendors, performers, or instructors as directed

•Support crowd flow and event logistics

•Perform light custodial duties during and after events

•Enforce facility and event policies as directed

•Respond to minor issues and report concerns to supervisor

•Perform other related duties as assigned

Typical Qualifications

Must be at least 18 years old. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Basic understanding of event operations. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.

OCCUPATIONAL / TECHNICAL SKILL SET

Knowledge of principles, practices and theories of recreation program development and coordination.

Knowledge of departmental policies and procedures.

Knowledge of applicable state, federal and local ordinances, laws, rules and regulations.

Knowledge of all computer applications and hardware related to performance of the essential functions of the job.

COMMUNICATIONS SKILL SET

Professional and courteous demeanor.

Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.

Ability to speak effectively before groups and to respond to questions.

ADMINISTRATIVE SKILL SET

Ability to organize work, set priorities, meet critical deadlines, and follow up on assignments with a minimum of direction.

Ability to apply logical thinking to solve practical problems.

Ability to deal with a variety of concrete variables in standardized situations.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operations, and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Supplemental Information

Work is performed in a variable environment, depending on the weather and season, primarily outdoors. Must be available to work a varied schedule to include weekdays, weeknights, weekends, and some holidays as needed for special programs and events.

Staff in this position must sit, see, use hands, reach with hands and arms, speak, hear, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Must be capable of spending long periods of time on his/her feet.
