Dispatcher (FT)

The City of Roanoke is seeking applicants for the position of Dispatcher.

Applicants must be at least 19 years of age, must possess a valid Alabama driver's license, and have a high school diploma or GED.

**TITLE:** Dispatcher (FT Night Shift)

**DEFINITION:** Is usually non-sworn personnel which handles all emergency incoming calls for assistance.

**EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:** The Dispatcher is responsible for answering and directing calls for assistance to the appropriate channel, The individual must also receive and process requests for information from all sworn personnel in the area of NCIC checks, maintain warrant files, maintain dispatch logs, and monitor numerous telephone and radio communication lines to insure safety of others and ensure a timely and appropriate level of response to calls to the Public Safety Service. This position is supplementary to the police officer activities. Other duties may be assigned as necessary.

**REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:** This position requires sufficient clarity of speech and hearing which permit's the employee to listen and respond to radio and telephone transmissions. Communication skills are a must. Sufficient typing and computer skills are necessary to maintain operation of the communication room equipment. Other duties may be assigned.

**QUALIFICATIONS:** The Communication Officer must be a United States Citizen and must have knowledge in the area of communication. The individual must some knowledge of typing and computer operation. The individual must 19 years or older. Must be willing to work at unscheduled times in emergencies.

**SALARY:** $15.00 per hour
