Join our innovative insurance team as we shape the future of Intelligent Document Processing (IDP). We are looking for a talented Senior Software Engineer to play a key role in designing, building, and scaling cloud-native software systems that facilitate automated document ingestion, classification, and data extraction on an enterprise level.

In this hands-on position, you'll focus on creating production-quality backend services and influencing technical design decisions that ensure our platform's reliability, performance, and maintainability. You'll work closely with other software engineers, data scientists, data analysts, and architects to deliver high-quality solutions aligned with core business workflows.

This role offers a Hybrid work schedule, which requires working in one of our offices in Columbus, OH, Chicago, IL, Hartford, CT, or Charlotte, NC three days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).

Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services for intelligent document processing workflows.

Build resilient cloud-native applications on AWS using managed services for optimal security and availability.

Develop automated document workflows including ingestion, classification, extraction, and validation pipelines.

Manage service-level aspects such as performance, reliability, observability, and cost efficiency.

Implement comprehensive monitoring, logging, alerting, and fault-tolerant patterns.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into robust software solutions.

Engage in system design discussions, code reviews, and technical decision-making processes.

Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code initiatives.

Create and maintain technical documentation and runbooks.

Stay informed on emerging technologies and contribute to strategic planning discussions.

Qualifications

Required

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.

5+ years of professional software engineering experience.

Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and either .NET or Java.

Experience developing cloud-native applications on AWS.

Familiarity with CI/CD and infrastructure-as-code tools.

Strong foundation in distributed systems and backend engineering principles.

Preferred

Experience with Intelligent Document Processing or GenAI-powered document platforms.

Exposure to OCR, NLP, or machine learning technologies.

Proficiency with Docker and Kubernetes.

AWS certifications.

Knowledge of insurance or financial document types.

Experience in agile methodologies.

Candidate must be authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship. The company will not support the STEM OPT I-983 Training Plan endorsement for this position.

Compensation

The annualized base pay range for this position is determined based on similar roles in the external market and is set between $137,200 - $205,800. Actual base pay may vary based on performance, proficiency, and essential competencies required for the role. This base pay is just one part of The Hartford's total compensation package, which may also include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and immediate recognition programs.
