Special Education Resource Room Teacher

Cognitive Impairment (SA) - Preferred

Or Learning Disabilities (SM) or Emotional Impairment (SE) Certified

Reports to: Building Principal

Employment Status: Full Time with benefits per LEA contract

General Description: The instructor shall be responsible for instruction that fosters student growth and development. The instructor will work with other resource room teachers and serve as primary planner and teacher for up to 25 students. The instructor will ensure that IEPs are properly scheduled, planned, conducted, and implemented. The instructor will ensure that general education instructors receive written notice and instruction of student accommodations, interventions, and BIP's, etc. The instructor shall be responsible for documenting and reporting student progress, behavior, and attendance and communicating it effectively to appropriate stakeholders.

Qualifications:

1. Possess valid Michigan School Teaching Certificate with one or more Special Education endorsements

2. Ability to develop and maintain a professional rapport with students, parents, staff, and the community

3. Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable

4. Knowledge and understanding of Special Education programming in a general education setting

5. Excellent communication, organization and interpersonal skills

6. Demonstrated passion for special population students

7. Knowledge and experience with MTSS practices preferred

8. Team player willing to work cooperatively with colleagues
