Driller Helper / Laborer – Geotechnical Drilling
Home Base: Columbus, Ohio
Regional Travel Required
Pay: $21/hour + Overtime + Per Diem + Paid Hotels
WH Talents Solutions is partnered with a well-established engineering and geotechnical firm is looking to add a Driller Helper to their field team based out of Columbus. This is a hands-on role working alongside experienced drillers performing soil and rock sampling for infrastructure and construction projects across the region. If you enjoy working outdoors, traveling with a crew, and learning a skilled trade, this is a strong entry point into the geotechnical and construction industry. No prior drilling experience is required — the right person will be trained on the job.
What the Job Looks Like
You’ll work directly with a drilling crew assisting with subsurface investigations for construction and engineering projects. The work is physical, outdoors, and fast-paced.
Typical responsibilities include:
Assist the Driller with setting up and operating drilling rigs and equipment
Load and unload tooling, rods, and materials from trucks
Collect soil and rock samples according to project specifications
Maintain a safe, organized work area on active job sites
Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of drilling equipment
Follow safety protocols and wear required PPE at all times
Communicate with drillers, project managers, and crew members in the field
Help maintain daily field logs and project documentation
Schedule & Travel
Monday – Friday schedule, typically 8–10 hour days with overtime available
This position travels with the drilling crew throughout the region.
Company provides:
Paid hotel accommodations Monday through Thursday
Daily per diem for meals while traveling
Return home most weekends (Friday through Sunday)
Occasional weekend work may be required depending on project schedules.
What We’re Looking For
High school diploma or GED preferred
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record required
Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check
Comfortable performing physical work outdoors in all weather conditions
Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and work on your feet throughout the day
Willingness to travel during the workweek with the drilling crew
Strong work ethic and ability to follow directions in a team environment
Basic mechanical aptitude is a plus
Compensation & Benefits
Hourly pay starting at $21/hour
Overtime pay after 40 hours per week
