GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK

Under the supervision of a certified teacher, prepares for classroom activities. Instructs individual and small groups of students by reinforcing material initially introduced by the teacher.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS

The minimum performance expectations may include, but not limited to, the following functions/tasks:

Assists individual pupils in need of special attention,

Guides independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work under the direction of the teacher,

Assists the teacher with non-instructional classroom duties, such as snacks, bathroom and clothing routines,

Checks notebooks/ homework assignments,

Correct papers and make-up work under the direction or supervision of the teacher,

Assists in supervision of testing,

Assists with student practice and remediation,

Assists with reading groups and storytelling,

Assists with small groups and/or individual students in the library,

Participates in in-service training,

Assumes duties as directed by the teacher or building administrator.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Associates (two-year) degree or higher education. Candidate can have an educational

equivalent to graduation form an accredited high school or General Development

Certificate (GED) with having passed the ParaPro assessment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/REQUIREMENTS

Duties performed typically in school settings include: classrooms, gymnasiums, cafeterias,

auditorium, and recreational areas. Frequent walking, standing, sitting, stooping, lifting up

to 30 pounds and occasional lifting of equipment, materials, and/or students up to 60 pounds

may be required. Occasional lifting, movement, and transferring of students may be

required. Occasional movement of students by wheelchairs and other mechanical devices

may be required. Other limited physical activities may be required. Occasional travel with

students on field trips may be necessary. Occasional attendance to parent conferences,

building-level meetings and division wide meetings and training activities beyond the

normal assigned hours may be necessary. Vocal communication is required for expressing

and exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive

information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and

analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work,

and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and

outside environmental conditions, noise and hazards. Daily personal close contact with

students to provide classroom management and learning environment support is required.

Regular contact with staff members and administrators is required. Contact with parents and

medical professionals may be required.
