Job Description

PURPOSE OF THE JOB: The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) provides comprehensive primary care and emergent stabilization services across the lifespan in outpatient, inpatient, and rural village settings. The APP practices within the scope of Alaska licensure and granted clinical privileges and collaborates with supervising physicians to ensure high-quality, culturally responsive care in accordance with BBAHC Medical Staff Bylaws, HRSA Section 330 requirements (as applicable), Rural Health Clinic (RHC) regulations, CMS Conditions of Participation (as applicable), accreditation standards, and Federal Tort Claims Act (FTCA) requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduate of Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.

Current national certification.

Unrestricted Alaska license (or ability to obtain).

Eligible for and granted clinical privileges.

Current BLS certification; ACLS and PALS within one year.

DEA registration consistent with prescribing authority.

Ability to provide culturally responsive care in rural Alaska communities.

Experience in Tribal Health, FQHC, or RHC setting. (preferred)

Rural or emergency medicine experience. (preferred)

Knowledge of HRSA, CMS, and accreditation standards. (preferred)

Nurse Practitioners

Graduate degree in nursing (MSN or DNP).

Population-appropriate national certification.

Physician Assistants

Graduate of ARC-PA program.

Current NCCPA certification.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Provides comprehensive primary and urgent care services for pediatric, adult, and geriatric populations.

Performs medical history, physical examination, diagnosis, and treatment planning.

Orders and interprets diagnostic tests.

Prescribes therapies within scope of licensure and DEA authority.

Performs procedures consistent with training and granted privileges.

Provides emergency stabilization and coordinates referral or medevac transport.

Documents care in the electronic health record in a timely and compliant manner.

Manages chronic disease and preventive health initiatives.

Coordinates referrals to specialty and tertiary care services.

Participates in interdisciplinary case management.

Supports Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) and Rural Health Clinic (RHC) initiatives.

Participates in Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluation (OPPE) and Focused Professional Practice Evaluation (FPPE).

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK: Schedule flexibility and on-call responsibilities may be required. Some weekend or evening hours are necessary in emergency situations.
