JOB SUMMARY
Under the general direction of the Executive Director of Physician Practices, the Physician Practices Clinical Supervisor is responsible for the overall management of all clinical operations within Effingham Health System's outpatient physician practices. This position plays a critical role in upholding high standards of patient care, optimizing workflows, ensuring regulatory compliance, and fostering engagement among clinical staff across various practice locations. Key responsibilities of the Clinical Supervisor include managing and supervising clinical personnel and evaluating their performance and competencies. The role involves monitoring staff attendance, coordinating work schedules, and supporting the ongoing professional development of clinical team members. The Clinical Supervisor serves as a vital link between administration and clinical staff, working to enhance operational efficiency and elevate patient satisfaction levels. Collaboration is a central aspect of this role, as the Clinical Supervisor works closely with providers, clinical teams, and operational leaders to deliver high-quality, community-focused healthcare services. By performing these duties, the Clinical Supervisor directly contributes to the mission of Effingham Health System, ensuring that each patient care experience is defined by compassion, quality, and a commitment to service excellence. The role also ensures consistent compliance with the standards established by the Joint Commission, CMS, DCH, and EHS Policy and Procedures.
STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE
1. Clinical Operations & Patient Experience
Lead daily clinic operations to ensure delivery of compassionate, high-quality, patient-centered care in alignment with Effingham Health System's mission and service excellence goals.
Monitor and evaluate quality metrics, patient outcomes, and patient satisfaction; implement performance improvement initiatives that support care excellence and community trust.
Support the implementation of evidence-based practices and standardized clinical protocols across outpatient practices to ensure consistency and quality of care.
2. Leadership, Performance & Team Development
Directly manage, supervise, and develop clinical staff, including nurses, medical assistants, and other outpatient care team members.
Maintain accountability for staff performance, attendance, scheduling, and clinical competencies, ensuring appropriate coverage, productivity, and adherence to scope-of-practice standards.
Conduct performance evaluations, address performance concerns, and implement corrective or developmental action plans as needed.
Foster a culture of teamwork, professionalism, accountability, and continuous improvement reflecting Effingham Health System's values.
Ensure staff receive appropriate onboarding, training, competency validation, and ongoing education to support safe and effective patient care.
3. Recruitment & Onboarding
Oversee the recruitment, onboarding, and training of clinical staff to ensure the clinic is staffed with competent and dedicated professionals.
Coordinate and facilitate the hiring process, ensuring all new team members are integrated smoothly into the organization.
Provide comprehensive orientation and training to support staff effectiveness, promote adherence to clinical protocols, and uphold the standards of patient-centered care.
4. Compliance & Clinical Standards
Ensure outpatient practices comply with all federal, state, and local regulations, including HIPAA, OSHA, and applicable clinical quality standards.
Maintain readiness for Joint Commission surveys, audits, and regulatory reviews, and lead corrective action efforts when needed.
Promote adherence to clinical policies, procedures, and documentation standards.
5. Collaboration & Provider Support
Serve as a clinical resource and operational partner to physicians, advanced practice providers, and administrative leadership.
Promote seamless coordination between outpatient practices and other Effingham Health System services, including imaging, specialty care, and telemedicine initiatives, to support continuity of care.
Partner with care coordination and population health teams to improve patient outcomes and community health metrics.
6. Operational & Financial Support
Collaborate on staffing models, scheduling strategies, resource allocation, and performance reporting to optimize clinic productivity, patient access, and staff efficiency.
Support revenue cycle performance by promoting accurate clinical documentation, workflow optimization, and compliance with billing-related clinical processes.
7. Patient Care Support
Address patient complaints, manage patient satisfaction, and occasionally assist in direct patient care. By promptly and effectively responding to concerns or issues raised by patients, the supervisor helps foster a positive patient experience and maintains trust within the outpatient clinics.
8. Other Duties
The Clinical Supervisor may occasionally assist in direct patient care, ensuring that patients receive timely, compassionate, and high-quality services when additional support is needed. This hands-on involvement underscores the supervisor's commitment to service excellence and patient-centered care.
Requirements
Minimum Level of Education: Applicants must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and have successfully graduated from an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse program. A combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered when determining minimum qualifications.
Formal Training: The Physician Practice Clinical Supervisor role requires strong management skills, demonstrated through essential abilities. Effective decision-making in the clinical environment relies on strong analytical thinking, critical reasoning, and problem-solving expertise. Efficient time management and the ability to prioritize tasks are important for keeping daily operations smooth and handling urgent issues quickly. Key skills include planning, organizing, executing, and guiding projects that drive the clinic's success. Attention to detail and multitasking are especially important in the fast-paced clinical setting. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are necessary to exchange clear, accurate information with patients, doctors, and other healthcare professionals.
Licensure, Certification, Registration: All applicants must possess and maintain a current, unencumbered Georgia Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN) license. In addition to nursing licensure, Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR certification is mandatory and must be kept current throughout employment. While not required, holding additional specialty-related certifications is preferred and considered advantageous.
Work Experience: Candidates should possess a minimum of 3-5 years of clinical experience in an outpatient or ambulatory care setting. A minimum of 2 years' experience in a supervisory or clinical leadership role with direct staff management responsibilities is required. Experience in physician practice operations, quality improvement initiatives, or outpatient care coordination is highly preferred.
Computer Skills: Advanced computer literacy with the capability to effectively use Microsoft computer software, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, as well as Physician Practice database systems.
Tools and Equipment Used: Calculator, personal computer, telephone, facsimile machine, paper shredder, copier, printer, standard physician's office equipment, and general nursing equipment.
