Context and Strategic Challenges

In an ever-evolving IT environment, Software Asset Management has become a major challenge for Orange Wholesale. Faced with challenges such as regulatory compliance (particularly NIS2), cost optimization, and resource rationalization, the role of Software Asset Management (SAM) Expert takes on a strategic dimension for the organization.

Current challenges:

Compliance and risk management: In a context of tightening vendor audits and evolving licensing models (particularly cloud), ensuring compliance is essential to avoid significant financial penalties

Cost optimization: Software spends represent a significant budget item that requires rigorous management to identify savings opportunities

Digital transformation: Supporting transformation projects requires expertise in licensing to guide technological choices

Asset governance: Establishing effective software asset governance is essential to maintain control over the entire license lifecycle

About the role

The Software Asset Management (SAM) Expert provides subject matter expertise in managing and optimizing software assets within Orange Wholesale. It's a critical role in ensuring compliance, cost-effectiveness, and efficient utilization of software licenses. The SAM Expert collaborates with stakeholders in a various ecosystem, including vendors, IT teams, and business units, to maintain an accurate inventory of software assets and drive strategic decisions related to software licensing.

Responsibilities

Operational:

Create and maintain accurate records of software licenses, agreements, and entitlements

Collaborate with IT teams to optimize software procurement, deployment, utilization

Conduct regular audits to assess software license compliance and usage within OW

Identify opportunities to consolidate, standardize, and rationalize software assets

Manage relationships with software vendors and negotiate favorable licensing agreements

Support projects in choosing software and understanding contractual rules

Communicate on usage restrictions and risks related to software use rights

Lead the activity: formalize role, scope, actions

Join the network of SAM experts covering each subsidiary/entity of Orange Group, organized as a community whose aim is to share best practices and benefit from an efficient method of spreading information and decisions

Strategy and guidance:

Monitor industry trends and changes in software licensing models to inform decision-making

Develop and implement strategies for effective software asset management across OW

Analyze software usage data to identify opportunities for cost optimization and efficiency improvements

Provide guidance and training to staff on software asset management best practices

Develop and maintain policies and procedures related to software asset management

About you

About you

A SAM expert on an international perimeter will help OW better manage software licensing and save costs. We need a profile with experience & requirements:

Experience

Experience in software asset management or related role

Strong understanding of software licensing models, compliance regulations, and audit processes

Skills in software asset management tools and technologies

Familiarity with ITIL framework and its application to software asset management processes

Ability to set up SAM processes and support operational teams in their appropriation of them, in a low maturity SAM level environment

Qualifications

Skills: Proficiency in managing complex vendor software contracts, with licensing terminology and software entitlements, experience in multidisciplinary and multicultural environments

Languages: Professional English (oral and written) and ideally French

Soft skills: Rigor and reliability, results driven, analytical and problem-solving skills, effective communication and negotiation abilities, teamwork and open-mindedness, ability to adapt to the context and multicultural environment, ability to coordinate and cooperate with others

Certifications: Relevant certifications such as ITIL, CSAM, IAITAM, CISA, CISSP, or SAM are an advantage

Priority Areas 2026

In connection with Orange Wholesale's current challenges, the SAM Expert will focus on the following priorities:

Asset Inventory and Mapping

Inventories ordered by the Orange Group SAM authority or requested by editors

Cost Optimization and Compliance

Analyze software expenditure over the past 3 years to identify savings opportunities

Evaluate optimization options for major contracts

Ensure compliance of licenses used with current contracts

Support for Strategic Projects

Support projects in their choice of software solution in terms of cost and impact analysis, evaluate opportunities for migration to open source solutions in collaboration with Group experts

Implementation of SAM Governance

Formalize SAM processes adapted to Orange Wholesale's context

Establish a network of correspondents in the various OW entities

Set up monitoring indicators and regular reporting

Key Performance Indicators

Your success in this role will be measured through several key indicators such as:

Audit gap reduction: Decrease in the number of discrepancies identified during internal or external audits

Cost savings achieved: Amount of savings generated through license optimization (in € or as % of budget)

License utilization ratio: Percentage of acquired licenses that are effectively used

SAM maturity level: Progression on the SAM maturity scale (for example, according to the ISO 19770 model)
