TITLE: TEACHER OF ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE, K - 4

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Connecticut State Teaching Certification in the Teaching of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL K-12)

2. ESL Teaching Experience across all levels K-12

3. Knowledge of the theories and effective practices of the teaching of English as a second language.

4. Knowledge of literacy development and language acquisition as it affects students enrolled in bilingual education or stand-alone ESL programs.

5. Ability to deliver content area instruction using comprehensible instruction (sheltered language) techniques.

6. Knowledgeable about computers and their application to second language instruction.

7. Knowledgeable about cooperative learning and its application to second language instruction.

8. Knowledgeable about multicultural education and student diversity issues.

JOB GOAL: To provide instruction in English as a second language to English Language Learners. REPORTS TO: Supervisor of Bilingual and ESL Programs and Principal

RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide appropriate ESL instruction to English Language Learners as per the job description for all New Haven Public School teachers.

COMPENSATION: Certified Teachers $35.00/hour, Non-certified instructors: $17.50/hour
