Job purpose: The CNC Lathe Operator is a key contributor to our machine shop, you will be responsible for setting up and operating CNC Lathes to produce high-precision, high-strength fasteners that support critical space programs and national defense systems. Key Responsibilities:
Machine Setup & Operation: Perform complex setups and operate CNC Lathes (including multi-axis and twin-spindle equipment) to produce fasteners with tolerances as tight as 0.0005”.
Quality & Inspection: Conduct First Article Inspections (FAI) per AS9102 and perform in-process quality checks using precision instruments such as micrometers, calipers, thread gages, and optical comparators.
Programming Support: Load, verify, and make minor edits to G-code/M-code programs at the machine interface (Fanuc or Mazatrol controls).
Operational Excellence: Maintain production schedules to ensure on-time delivery while minimizing waste and scrap. Record production data into SPC (Statistical Process Control) and ERP systems.
Tooling Management: Select proper cutting tools, perform tool touch-offs, and replace worn inserts at predetermined intervals to ensure surface finish and dimensional integrity.
Safety & Compliance: Adhere strictly to AS9100 Quality Management System requirements and OSHA safety regulations to maintain a safe, "zero-defect" environment.
Qualifications & Skills
Minimum of 4 years of experience in CNC Lathe setup and operation, preferably within the aerospace or medical device industries.
Deep understanding of G-code/M-code and Fanuc or Mazatrol controls.
Expertise in reading and interpreting complex engineering blueprints and CAD/CAM sketches.
Knowledge of machining high-strength alloys (e.g., Titanium, Inconel, Stainless Steel) typically used in aerospace fasteners.
Proficient in shop math, including geometry and trigonometry for calculating radii and angles.
Familiarity with AS9100 standards and the rigors of aerospace quality documentation.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
Must be able to stand for extended periods (8–10 hours) and lift up to 50 lbs without assistance.
Willingness to work in a high-paced, climate-controlled manufacturing facility.
Must have corrected vision to 20/20 for precision inspection tasks.
