Job Summary

The CNC Machine Set-up Operator sets up and operates Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machining centers in the assigned department.

Essential Job Functions

Reads blueprints, layouts, sketches, or work orders to sets up machines appropriately

Operates CNC machines to produce all parts to ISO standards

Measures dimensions of finished work pieces to ensure conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments, templates, and fixtures

Mounts, installs, aligns, and secures tools, attachments, fixtures, and work pieces on machines using hand tools and precision measuring instruments

Stops machines to remove finished work pieces or to change tooling, setup, or work piece placement, according to required machining sequences

Transfers commands from servers to computer numerical control (CNC) modules using computer network links

Checks to ensure that work pieces are properly lubricated and cooled during machine operation

Performs prescribed preventative maintenance on machines as required

Completes cross-training on different machines in the area as required by supervision

Trains other teammates as required by supervision

Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean orderly condition in accordance with 5S protocol and follows prescribed standard procedures and safety regulations

Reports to work regularly and punctually as working schedule requires

Performs related duties as assigned by supervision

Required/Preferred Education and Experience

High School Diploma or GED

Associate degree or higher preferred

Must have completed Introduction to CNC and a course for basic and advanced CNC machining operations, or have equivalent job training and experience

Experience on Tsugami Housing Machine preferred

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Knowledge of raw materials, key manufacturing processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods

Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services

Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance

Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.

Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.

Able to work independently and with other teammates in the organization to achieve goal

Able to identify complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions

Skilled in oral and written communication, judgment and decision making, organization and coordination

High level computer skills: Excel, Word, and PowerPoint (able to manipulate documents using these software packages)

Physical Demands

The employees in this position must be able to stand continuously (5.01 hours and over/day), walk and bend/stoop frequently (25 min to 2.5 hours/day). The employee must be able to push/pull/lift up to 55 pounds frequently. The employee must be able to quickly respond (with the hand, finger, or foot) to a signal (sound, light, picture) when it appears. The employee must be able to keep his/her hand and arm steady while moving his/her arm or while holding his/her arm and hand in one position. The employee must be able to quickly move his/her hand, his/her hand together with his/her arm, or his/her two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects. The employee must be able to coordinate two or more limbs (for example, two arms, two legs, or one leg and one arm) while sitting, standing, or lying down. The employee must be able to use his/her abdominal and lower back muscles to support part of the body repeatedly or continuously over time without 'giving out' or fatiguing. Employee must be able to wear hearing protection, interpret information by using visual acuity, hearing and speaking, gross and fine motor skills, and work 8 hours or more frequently.
