Lead Engineer

Piper Companies is seeking an experienced Lead Engineer to support a fast growing, technology driven insurance organization.

The Lead Engineer will be responsible for architecting, designing, and delivering technical solutions across core systems including CRM, CCM, vendor platforms, and cloud based applications.

This role will lead engineering efforts, collaborate with cross functional teams, and guide development through all phases of the SDLC.

Responsibilities of the Lead Engineer include: * Design end to end technical solutions and lead implementation across multiple platforms * Oversee development teams and provide hands on engineering leadership * Architect scalable, secure applications leveraging Node.js, React, AWS, and DynamoDB * Evaluate existing systems, propose modernization strategies, and implement improvements * Manage vendor supported platforms such as Zendesk (CRM), SmartCom (CCM), and Axway (MFT) * Build and enhance CI/CD pipelines using Bitbucket and automation tools * Collaborate with business and IT stakeholders to translate requirements into technical designs * Conduct code reviews, enforce engineering standards, and mentor developers * Troubleshoot production issues and drive root cause analysis across application layers * Maintain documentation and ensure alignment with enterprise architecture and governance policies Qualifications for the Lead Engineer include: * Bachelor's degree in computer information systems, technology, or related field * 8+ years of progressive software engineering experience, including web services and application components * Strong experience with AWS, Node.js, React, JavaScript, and DynamoDB * Proven full stack development expertise with ability to lead technical delivery * Strong communication skills and ability to guide cross functional teams * Experience supporting applications in the insurance domain * Ability to manage multiple priorities in fast paced, deadline driven environments * Strong problem solving skills and ability to make decisions amid uncertainty Compensation for the Lead Engineer includes: * $120,000 - $135,000 annual range plus full benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, 401(k), paid time off, holidays, and legally required sick leave On site requirement - three days per week at the Durham, NC office This role becomes available for applicants on 3/9/2025, and the application window will remain open for at least 30 days from the listed posting date.
