Join Ad Age as a Lead Data Journalist!

We are looking for a dynamic Lead Data Journalist to spearhead research, analysis, and data-driven storytelling across the exciting realms of advertising, marketing, media, and technology. In this pivotal role, you will revamp and enhance the research and analysis behind Ad Age's essential editorial franchises, including the Agency Report and Brand Report, while playing a key part in shaping the future of data journalism in our newsroom.

What You'll Do:

Core Reports and Rankings:

Take charge of the research, analysis, and modernization of crucial annual rankings and benchmark reports, notably our key Datacenter projects.

Assess and refine methodologies, data sourcing, and documentation to accurately reflect the evolving advertising and marketing industry.

Collaborate with editors, designers, and product teams to elevate the presentation of data in innovative and engaging ways.

Data-Driven Reporting and Storytelling:

Investigate and write original, compelling data-driven news stories and industry trend analyses.

Uncover impactful insights and narratives within complex datasets.

Create clear, precise charts and visuals to enhance reported stories and recurring reports.

Translate intricate findings into accessible and impactful journalism for our business audience.

Strategy and Collaboration:

Team up with fellow reporters and editors on data-informed projects across various beats including agencies, brands, media, technology, and AI.

Support and enhance the data-driven work of other journalists, ensuring clarity and methodological rigor.

Contribute innovative ideas for new data products and editorial formats to engage and grow our audience.

Help establish best practices for data accuracy and transparency within the newsroom.

Stakeholder Communication:

Work with various data sources—both proprietary and public—ensuring accuracy and sound methodology.

Communicate findings and methodologies clearly to stakeholders, including agency and brand representatives.

Effectively convey insights and methods to newsroom colleagues and our readership.

Your Qualifications:

Required:

At least five years of experience in data-driven journalism, including reporting, analysis, and storytelling.

Proven ability to analyze datasets and extract meaningful insights and trends.

Excellent reporting instincts and editorial judgment, emphasizing accuracy and transparency.

Experience in creating effective and clear data visualizations for editorial purposes.

Capable of managing complex data projects independently from inception to completion.

Exceptional collaboration and communication skills, with ability to explain findings clearly to diverse audiences.

Preferred:

Experience in modernizing editorial products or managing recurring reports.

Comfort with large, intricate datasets.

Familiarity with data visualization tools and automation workflows.

Background in advertising, media, marketing, or technology.

Pay Transparency Disclosure:

The estimated salary for this position ranges from $95,000 to $125,000. The final offer will account for various factors, including experience and location. This range should not be interpreted as a salary cap. In addition to salary, competitive benefits include retirement plan contributions and performance-based bonuses.

Environmental Demands:

This role may involve working in various environments, including in-office, hybrid, or remotely based on team needs.
