Position Overview

As a Senior Staff Engineer, you will be instrumental in shaping the technical direction and architecture of your business unit. You will take the lead in driving innovation, addressing large-scale system challenges, and mentoring talented engineers to maximize their impact. This role offers autonomy and the opportunity to influence outcomes at both the unit and organizational levels.

Your Responsibilities

Define and execute multi-team technical strategies focusing on scalability and interoperability.

Design frameworks and reusable systems that are utilized across multiple engineering units.

Lead cross-functional initiatives in data architecture, security, and reliability.

Advise leadership on technical direction and significant trade-offs, representing engineering in executive technical decisions.

Mentor senior engineers, fostering an environment of cultural and architectural growth.

Technology Stack

In your role, you will engage across the full breadth of Datavant's technology platform, including:

Backend: Python, Go, Java; microservices; REST and GraphQL

Frontend: TypeScript, React, Next.js

Infrastructure & Cloud: AWS, multi-cloud architectures, Kubernetes, Docker

Data Platforms: Snowflake, Spark, SQL, S3

ETL & Orchestration: Airflow or AWS Glue

Streaming: Kafka or Kinesis

Observability: DataDog, Grafana, CloudWatch

Security & Compliance: OAuth2/SAML, encryption, tokenization, zero-trust frameworks

As a Senior Staff Engineer, you are expected to apply deep architectural expertise, establish scalable patterns, guide cross-team adoption, and uphold the highest standards of reliability, security, and performance.

Qualifications

10+ years of experience in software engineering with a strong focus on system design.

Extensive experience with large-scale distributed systems, multi-cloud architectures, and data pipelines.

Demonstrated ability to influence organizational direction and align teams effectively.

Proven capability to translate strategic objectives into scalable engineering implementations.

The estimated total cash compensation for this role ranges from $220,000 to $275,000 USD.
