Job Description: Maintenance Mechanic / 3rd Shift
Position Title: Maintenance Mechanic
Department: Maintenance / Engineering
Reports To: Maintenance Supervisor / Plant Engineer
Job Summary
The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and optimizing all production and facility equipment within the textile manufacturing plant. This includes mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and basic electrical systems used in weaving, spinning, knitting, dyeing, finishing, and other textile processes. The role ensures minimal downtime, maximum operational efficiency, and compliance with safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Equipment Maintenance & Repair
• Perform preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance on textile machinery such as carding machines, spinning frames, looms, knitting machines, dyeing equipment, finishing lines, compressors, boilers, and conveyors.
• Diagnose equipment issues using mechanical knowledge, problem-solving skills, and diagnostic tools.
• Repair or replace defective machine parts (gears, bearings, belts, shafts, motors, pumps, etc.).
• Calibrate machines to ensure proper tension, alignment, speed, and operational accuracy.
Troubleshooting
• Respond promptly to machine breakdowns to reduce downtime.
• Identify root causes of mechanical failures and implement corrective solutions.
• Collaborate with machine operators to understand performance issues and recommend preventive measures.
Preventive Maintenance (PM)
• Execute scheduled PM tasks according to maintenance plans.
• Document inspections, findings, lubrication, adjustments, and repairs.
• Maintain accurate maintenance logs in CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System).
Safety & Compliance
• Follow OSHA, company safety policies, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and safe work practices.
• Ensure machinery safety devices are functioning properly.
• Assist in safety audits and implement corrective actions when needed.
Installation & Upgrades
• Assist in equipment installations, relocations, and plant layout changes.
• Perform mechanical modifications or upgrades to improve machine performance.
• Support engineers and vendors during equipment commissioning.
General Facilities Maintenance
• Maintain building systems including HVAC, plumbing, steam, water, and compressed air systems.
• Perform basic electrical support (replace sensors, switches, fuses, and assist electricians as needed).
Qualifications
Education & Experience
• High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training preferred.
• 3+ years of mechanical maintenance experience, preferably in textile manufacturing or high-speed industrial environments.
• Experience with mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and basic electrical systems.

Skills & Competencies
• Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to read blueprints, mechanical drawings, and schematics.
• Proficient with hand tools, power tools, precision measuring devices, and diagnostic equipment.
• Ability to weld, fabricate, or machine parts is a plus.
• Knowledge of textile production processes (spinning, weaving, knitting, dyeing, finishing) is highly desirable.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
Physical Requirements
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, and work in confined spaces or elevated platforms.
• Lift up to 50 lbs frequently and 75+ lbs with assistance.
• Work in environments with noise, heat, humidity, dust, and moving machinery.
• Ability to work overtime, weekends, and rotating shifts as needed.
Work Environment
• Fast-paced textile manufacturing environment.
• Interaction with machine operators, production staff, engineers, and management.
• May involve exposure to chemicals used in textile processing (with proper PPE).
