Description
The Mechanical / Maintenance Superintendent is responsible for leading all maintenance and mechanical activities supporting Milford Mining Company's mining and mineral processing operations. This role provides hands-on and strategic leadership to ensure plant and mobile equipment reliability, safe work execution, and continuous improvement across crushing, grinding/milling, flotation, acid leach, solvent extraction and electrowinning operations. The Superintendent will oversee maintenance personnel, contractors, and maintenance systems while working closely with Operations, Engineering, and Health & Safety to maximize equipment availability and production performance.
This position requires proven leadership capability, advanced mechanical maintenance expertise, and a strong understanding of mineral processing equipment and systems.
Essential Functions
Leadership & Supervision
Lead, mentor, and develop Maintenance Team Leaders, planners, and trades personnel (mechanics, electricians, welders).
Establish clear expectations for safety, performance, and accountability across the maintenance team.
Foster a strong safety culture aligned with Company policies and MSHA requirements.
Coordinate and manage contractors for specialized maintenance and shutdown activities.
Maintenance & Reliability
Direct preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs for plant and site equipment.
Ensure high availability and reliability of critical assets across all processing areas, including:
Crushing systems (primary, secondary, and tertiary crushers)
Grinding and milling equipment (ball mills, grinding circuits, cyclones)
Sulfide flotation circuits (flotation cells, agitators, blowers, launders)
Acid leach systems (leach tanks, pumps, piping, heaters, agitators)
Solvent extraction (SX) equipment (mixer-settlers, pumps, organic handling systems)
Electrowinning (EW) systems (cells, rectifiers, cathode handling equipment)
Pumps (slurry, process, centrifugal, and positive displacement)
Electric motors, drives, and control equipment
Conveyors, gearboxes, and material handling systems
Lead root cause failure analysis (RCFA) and implement long-term corrective actions.
Develop and manage maintenance shutdown planning and execution.
Welding & Fabrication
Oversee welding, fabrication, and structural repairs to ensure compliance with engineering standards and quality requirements.
Ensure proper welding procedures, qualifications, and inspections are followed.
Planning, Budgeting & Controls
Develop and manage maintenance budgets, including labor, parts, and contract services.
Optimize spare parts inventory and maintenance materials management.
Track and report key maintenance KPIs (equipment availability, downtime, MTBF, MTTR, cost control).
Engineering & Continuous Improvement
Apply mechanical and process engineering principles to improve equipment performance, maintainability, and safety across crushing, grinding/milling, flotation, acid leach, solvent extraction, and electrowinning operations.
Support process improvements and debottlenecking initiatives across oxide and sulfide processing circuits.
Participate in equipment selection, design reviews, and commissioning of new or modified systems.
Collaborate with Operations and Process Engineering to address throughput, recovery, and reliability constraints.
Safety & Compliance
Ensure all maintenance activities comply with MSHA regulations, company safety policies, and environmental requirements.
Lead safety meetings, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and incident investigations related to maintenance activities.

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit; stand; walk on flat and uneven ground; ascend/descend stairs. Will require the ability to lift 50 lbs, bend and/or stand as necessary.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Occasional travel may be necessary.

Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Process Engineering, or a related field OR equivalent combination of education and significant hands-on experience in mining or mineral processing maintenance.
Proven leadership experience in a maintenance management role within mining, mineral processing, or heavy industrial operations.
Advanced hands-on maintenance experience with mining and mineral processing equipment and systems, including:
Crushing systems (primary, secondary, and tertiary)
Grinding and milling equipment (ball mills, grinding circuits, cyclones)
Sulfide flotation systems (cells, agitators, blowers, launders)
Acid leach systems (leach tanks, pumps, piping, heaters, agitators)
Solvent extraction (SX) equipment (mixer-settlers, pumps, organic handling systems)
Electrowinning (EW) systems (cells, rectifiers, bus bars, cathode handling equipment)
Pumps and slurry handling systems
Electric motors, drives, and mechanical power transmission
Welding and fabrication
Strong knowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance practices.
Working knowledge of MSHA regulations and mine safety standards.
Preferred
Experience in copper or base metal mining operations
Reliability engineering or maintenance management training
Experience leading major shutdowns and capital projects
Familiarity with CMMS systems and maintenance planning tools
