Provide skilled nursing care on a specialized step-down unit focusing on general medical and oncology patients. This role requires proficient administration of chemotherapy via IV and strong competency in starting IVs, supporting patients with complex needs. The unit utilizes advanced equipment including Welch Allyn vital sign towers, Sigma IV pumps, and EPIC for documentation.
Key Qualifications and Experience:
Michigan RN License and current BLS certification from the American Heart Association
ONCC or ONS certification required; pending ONS certification accepted (ONC certification must be in hand)
Minimum of 2 years nursing experience in PCU or step-down units
Skilled in chemotherapy administration and IV insertion
Comfortable working night shifts (3 consecutive 12-hour shifts, 7 PM to 7:30 AM)
Flexibility to float to other medical-surgical areas including Acute Unit and Emergency Room
Able to cover every other weekend; weekend assignments scheduled by management
Capable of working with nurse-to-patient ratios ranging from 1:4 to 1:6, with charge nurse support and adjusted assignments during chemotherapy admissions
Willingness to work block schedules upon request; availability required for the first two weeks of assignment
Responsibilities:
Deliver expert nursing care to oncology and general medicine step-down patients
Administer chemotherapy safely and accurately
Document patient care thoroughly in EPIC system
Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary team and support staff
Provide coverage in other med-surg areas as needed
