Nursing Home Administrator (LNHA)

Skilled Nursing Facility – Connecticut

*This role is located at 301 Rope Ferry Rd, Waterford, CT 06385*

Position Summary

The Nursing Home Administrator provides overall leadership and strategic direction for the skilled nursing facility. This role ensures high-quality resident care, operational excellence, financial stability, and full compliance with Connecticut Department of Public Health (CT DPH) regulations, federal CMS standards, and all applicable long-term care guidelines. The Administrator oversees daily operations, fosters a resident-centered environment, and drives continuous quality improvement in a skilled nursing setting.

Key Responsibilities

Direct and supervise all facility operations, including clinical services, resident care, admissions/discharges, dietary, housekeeping, maintenance, social services, and administrative functions.

Ensure ongoing compliance with federal (CMS), state (CT DPH), and local regulations; prepare for and lead surveys, audits, and inspections while maintaining survey readiness.

Develop, implement, and monitor policies, procedures, and programs to promote resident safety, quality of care, infection prevention, and person-centered practices.

Oversee financial management, including budgeting, revenue cycle (Medicare/Medicaid/private pay reimbursement), expense control, payroll, and financial reporting to achieve fiscal goals.

Lead the interdisciplinary team; hire, train, evaluate, and develop department heads and staff to support a high-performing, compliant workforce.

Build positive relationships with residents, families, physicians, hospitals, vendors, and community partners; address concerns and promote satisfaction.

Develop and execute strategic plans aligned with facility goals, quality metrics, occupancy targets, and regulatory updates.

Manage risk, safety programs (including emergency preparedness and fire prevention), and environmental services to maintain a safe, clean, and appealing facility.

Serve as the primary liaison to the governing body/owner, reporting on performance, challenges, and opportunities.

Qualifications

Current, active Nursing Home Administrator (NHA) license in the State of Connecticut (required; issued by CT DPH).

Bachelor’s degree required (Master’s in healthcare administration, business, or related field preferred); completion of approved long-term care administration program and successful passage of national (NAB) and state exams.

Minimum 2 years of progressive leadership experience in skilled nursing, long-term care, or post-acute settings, with prior Administrator or Assistant Administrator experience strongly preferred.

In-depth knowledge of CMS regulations, CT DPH standards, reimbursement systems (Medicare, Medicaid), and quality assurance/performance improvement processes.

Proven skills in financial management, budgeting, regulatory compliance, team leadership, and crisis management.

Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving abilities.

Proficiency in healthcare software, electronic health records, and Microsoft Office suite.

CHOW experience is a big plus.
