Social Worker

TERMS OF REFERENCE (TOR) POSITION: SOCIAL WORKER Organization: Kenya Women and Children Wellness Centre (KWCWC) Duty Station: Nairobi, Kenya.

Reports to: Program Manager / Head of Programs Supervises: Interns / Volunteers (where applicable) 1.

BACKGROUND Kenya Women and Children Wellness Centre (KWCWC) provides comprehensive protection, psychosocial, and reintegration services to women and children survivors of violence and vulnerability.

The Social Worker plays a critical role in case management, psychosocial assessment, family tracing, and reintegration to ensure the safety, dignity, and long-term well-being of clients.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION The purpose of this role is to provide professional social work services within shelter-based programs for survivors of Gender-Based Violence (GBV), including women and children.

The Social Worker is responsible for psychosocial assessment, case management, protection, reintegration, and coordination of shelter services to ensure survivors’ safety, recovery, dignity, and long-term well-being.

SCOPE OF WORK / KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 3.1 Psychosocial Assessment and Case Management (Shelter-Based GBV Services) Conduct comprehensive psychosocial and risk assessments for GBV survivors upon admission to the shelter and during their stay.

Identify immediate safety, medical, legal, and psychosocial needs of survivors.

Develop, implement, and regularly review individualized case and safety plans in collaboration with the survivor and multidisciplinary team.

Provide ongoing psychosocial support, crisis intervention, and survivor-centered case management.

Maintain accurate, confidential, and secure shelter case files in line with GBV ethical guidelines.

3.2 Reintegration, Resettlement, and Aftercare Assess readiness for safe reintegration, resettlement, or alternative care options for GBV survivors.

Conduct family assessments, mediation, and verification where reintegration is deemed safe and appropriate.

Coordinate safe exits from the shelter, including reintegration, independent living, or referral to alternative protection services.

Conduct post-shelter follow-up and monitoring to ensure safety and wellbeing.

Link survivors to community-based support services, livelihoods, and empowerment programs.

3.3 Protection, Safeguarding, and Survivor-Centered Approach Ensure all shelter services adhere to GBV survivor-centered principles, including safety, confidentiality, respect, and informed consent.

Identify and manage protection risks within the shelter environment.

Report and respond to safeguarding concerns in line with national GBV referral pathways and organizational policies.

Participate in case conferences, shelter review meetings, and multidisciplinary team discussions.

Uphold the best interests of child survivors at all times.

3.4 Coordination, Referrals, and Shelter Service Integration Coordinate closely with shelter staff, psychologists, nurses, security, and house managers to ensure holistic care for survivors.

Facilitate referrals to medical, legal, police, court, and other protection services.

Liaise with government departments, NGOs, and community structures supporting GBV survivors.

Represent KWCWC in GBV coordination forums and shelter-related stakeholder meetings when required.

3.5 Monitoring, Reporting, and Documentation Prepare timely case reports, reintegration reports, and progress updates.

Contribute to program monitoring and evaluation activities.

Maintain accurate data in line with organizational and donor requirements.

Support audits and reviews by providing required documentation.

3.6 Capacity Building and Mentorship Support the supervision and mentorship of interns and volunteers.

Participate in training, debriefings, and professional development activities.

Contribute to the development and review of SOPs, tools, and guidelines.

3.7 Any Other Duties Perform any other duties related to social work and client welfare as may be assigned by Management, consistent with the scope of the position.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Community Development, or a related field.

Registration with the Kenya Association of Professional Counsellors (KAPC) or a relevant professional body is an added advantage.

Minimum of 2–3 years’ experience in case management, child protection, GBV, or shelter-based services.

Knowledge of Kenyan child protection laws and referral systems.

Report writing and documentation skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS Internal: Program team, Psychologists, Shelter Staff, HR and Finance.

External: Government departments, health facilities, legal aid providers, community leaders, NGOs.
