Job Description
Vilya is a computational biotechnology company creating a novel class of medicines to precisely target disease biology. We believe computational approaches are an integral, if not foundational, component of drug discovery and development. Our platform is built on ground-breaking research in advanced computational approaches and taps into uncharted chemical space to design new molecular structures not found in nature.
We are harnessing the power of our platform to go after previously impossible targets in an array of indications. Vilya's ultimate goal is to solve some of the most challenging unmet medical needs that exist today.
Our Vision: Harness a revolution in technology and biology to better human health
Our Mission: Build an independent, leading biotech company founded on intelligent drug design to cure the incurable
We are seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Summer Intern to join our Biology team in South San Francisco for 12 weeks in the summer of 2026. In this role, you will gain hands-on experience in the pharmaceutical industry, developing and conducting in-vitro assays to evaluate the efficacy, uptake, or metabolism of early-stage drug candidates. Reporting to our Director, Biology, you will work closely with experienced scientists to support the development of new therapies. This internship provides an excellent opportunity to learn about Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics (DMPK) and Molecular Pharmacology techniques to support Drug Discovery and Development.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Utilize common lab techniques, conduct assays, and handle laboratory samples to support Biology research efforts
Follow written protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs) accurately
Manage time efficiently, prioritize objectives, and record experiments in an electronic lab notebook in a timely manner
Adherence to EH&S rules and regulations
Contribute to experimental planning, apply analytical thinking to identify problems, and offer potential solutions
Communicate clearly and respectfully with all members of the organization
Regularly report and discuss research findings with peers or supervisors
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
3rd-4th year undergraduate students, or recent graduates in Chemistry, Biology or other relevant field
Ability to use basic laboratory equipment (e.g., pipettes, microscopes, centrifuges)
Previous tissue culture experience
Familiarity with handling hazardous materials (e.g., chemicals, biological agents) and understanding safety data sheets (SDS)
Understanding of basic lab safety practices, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and emergency protocols
Understanding of data integrity and the importance of maintaining consistent, reproducible results
Enthusiasm for a career in biotech, with an interest in innovation, research, and contributing to advancing healthcare or technology solutions
