THE POSITION
The Network Security Engineer is responsible for protecting network infrastructure by implementing and maintaining security controls, monitoring threats, and ensuring compliance with federal cybersecurity requirements.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Network Security Operations
Implement, operate, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot enterprise network security infrastructure.
Monitor network performance, availability, and security events across enterprise systems.
Analyze network traffic to identify anomalies, vulnerabilities, or security incidents.
Perform incident triage, root cause analysis, and remediation of network security issues.
Document incidents, investigations, and resolution activities in IT service management systems.
2. Firewall and VPN Management
Deploy, configure, and maintain Fortinet firewall infrastructure (Fortigate, FortiAnalyzer, FortiManager).
Support site-to-site VPN services and secure remote access solutions.
Maintain firewall policies, perform change requests, and ensure adherence to security best practices.
Conduct troubleshooting and performance tuning of firewall and VPN systems
3. Load Balancing and Application Security
Configure and manage F5 load balancers and related application delivery infrastructure.
Support secure application traffic routing and performance optimization.
4. Monitoring and Security Infrastructure
Maintain and support network monitoring platforms including:
i. Cisco DNA
ii. Cisco Prime
iii. LiveAction
iv. Xymon
5. Cloud Security
Support and secure cloud infrastructure including:
i. AWS
ii. Microsoft Azure
iii. Google Cloud
iv. Cloudflare
6. Security Patch Management
Ensure security vulnerabilities are remediated within required timelines
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Position located in Washington, DCRequirements:
Public Trust; AND,
Minimum 5+ years of experience in network security engineering or a related field.
Experience supporting enterprise firewall and network security solutions.
Experience working in enterprise network environments supporting secure connectivity and infrastructure.
Familiarity with Zero Trust architecture and Zscaler platforms.
