Description:

About the Role:

The CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine) Operator supports Exalta's commitment to patient safety and product reliability by performing dimensional inspection of medical device components using CMM equipment and other precision measurement tools. This role is responsible for executing inspection routines, verifying conformance to engineering drawings and specifications, and accurately documenting results in alignment with internal procedures and applicable regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, dependable, and able to learn quickly in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Experience with Hexagon PC-DMIS is a plus, but Exalta is open to training a strong candidate who demonstrates CMM experience, adaptability, and solid measurement fundamentals.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent (technical certificate or coursework is a plus).

0-3+ years of inspection/metrology experience in a manufacturing environment (entry-level candidates considered with strong aptitude).

Ability to read and interpret blueprints and basic GD&T (datums, position, profile, flatness, etc.).

Comfortable using measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, bore gauges, etc.

Strong attention to detail, documentation discipline, and ability to follow standardized procedures.

Basic computer skills (data entry, spreadsheets, inspection reports).

Preferred Qualifications:

Medical device manufacturing experience and familiarity with regulated documentation practices (ISO/FDA environment).

Experience with Hexagon PC-DMIS (or willingness and ability to learn PC-DMIS quickly).

Exposure to CMM concepts such as probe qualification, fixture setup, alignments, and repeatability.

Experience with CAD/3D model viewing, SPC basics, or inspection reporting software.

ASQ Certified Quality Inspector (CQI) or metrology-related training/certification.

Responsibilities:

PM, Set up, and operate CMM equipment to inspect first article, in-process, and final product per engineering requirements.

Execute established inspection programs and follow documented inspection plans/work instructions.

Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and basic GD&T to identify critical features and inspection requirements.

Collect, verify, and record measurement results; clearly communicate out-of-tolerance conditions to Quality/Manufacturing.

Support investigation activities by providing measurement data for nonconformances, rework, and corrective actions.

Perform routine verification checks and basic maintenance/housekeeping of metrology equipment and fixtures.

Maintain accurate inspection documentation and ensure data integrity in accordance with quality system requirements.

Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying repeatability issues, inspection bottlenecks, or process risks.

Skills:

The ideal candidate demonstrates a precision measurement mindset with a strong focus on accuracy, repeatability, and data integrity, along with the ability to interpret blueprints and apply a working knowledge of GD&T. They use structured troubleshooting and problem-solving to identify true root causes (cause vs. symptom), communicate clearly with Production, Engineering, and Quality teams, and manage time effectively to prioritize inspections under production schedules. They are also adaptable and eager to learn new programs, methods, and product lines as business needs evolve.

M-F, 8am-4:30pm. 30-minute lunch. Potential for 7am start time. Open to weekend shift discussion as an option. Possibility for extra shift on weekend, based on business needs.
