A rapidly growing advanced manufacturing startup is seeking an Aerospace and Defense Program Manager to help lead the execution of critical programs spanning both aerospace components and defense systems. This role sits at the intersection of engineering, operations, and business leadership, ensuring complex hardware programs move efficiently from development through qualification and into production. You will play a central role in coordinating engineering teams, managing program milestones, and maintaining strong relationships with customers and partners. The ideal candidate brings an engineering foundation along with several years of program or project leadership experience, ideally within aerospace or defense environments. This position is well suited for someone who began their career in engineering and is increasingly drawn toward the business and execution side of complex technical programs You may initially support both aerospace component programs and large caliber defense systems, with the opportunity over time to specialize more deeply in a product area or expand into broader operational and business leadership responsibilities.

Job Duties

Lead complex aerospace and defense programs from concept through testing, qualification, and production readiness

Manage program scope, schedule, cost targets, and technical performance across multiple initiatives

Act as the primary interface between engineering teams, leadership, and external partners to ensure program alignment

Translate technical progress into clear program milestones, deliverables, and measurable outcomes

Establish structured internal program reviews to track progress and maintain execution discipline

Ensure program activities remain aligned with contractual commitments, regulatory requirements, and customer expectations

Identify technical, operational, and supply chain risks and implement mitigation strategies early in the development cycle

Support development of a flexible supply chain capable of supporting increasing production volumes

Participate in product testing, validation, and qualification activities when required

Maintain strong relationships with customers and partners throughout program execution

Support leadership with program updates, strategy discussions, and occasional executive level presentations

Contribute to business development efforts and represent the company in customer or partner engagements as needed

Qualifications

5+ years of experience in program management, project management, or product leadership within aerospace, defense, or advanced hardware industries

Engineering background or early career experience in a technical role such as mechanical, aerospace, or systems engineering

Experience operating within complex engineering environments and coordinating cross functional teams

Ability to communicate effectively with technical teams while helping translate engineering work into program outcomes

Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously

Demonstrated ownership and ability to drive programs forward in fast moving environments

Comfort working in startup environments where roles evolve and individuals wear multiple hats

Preferred Experience

Experience working within large aerospace or defense organizations and exposure to established engineering and program management processes

Experience transitioning from engineering focused roles into program or business leadership positions

Familiarity with aerospace hardware programs, defense systems, advanced materials, or manufacturing technologies

Experience working with government customers, defense contractors, or international partners

Exposure to testing, qualification, or certification activities for hardware products

Interest in helping scale programs within an early stage technology company
