ABOUT CANDLELIGHTERS
Founded in 1978 by two families facing childhood cancer, Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation of Nevada is the state's first and oldest nonprofit dedicated to supporting families affected by childhood cancer. The organization provides emotional support, quality of life programs, and financial assistance to children and their families, serving approximately 400 families and more than 1,800 children each year. All services are offered at no cost, with a mission to help families focus on their child's journey and well-being, and a vision to ensure no family faces childhood cancer alone.
JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking a Family Program and Events Manager to lead, plan, coordinate, and implement family-focused events and emotional-support programs that enhance quality of life and build community for families facing childhood cancer. This role ensures that families feel supported, engaged, and connected through meaningful events, therapeutic offerings, peer support opportunities, and community gatherings while being responsive to the needs of families throughout treatment, survivorship, and bereavement.
The position requires strong organizational and event-management skills, compassion for families navigating complex medical journeys, and the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced nonprofit environment.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
• Build relationships with families to understand their needs ensuring events and programming is inclusive, accessible, and reflective of the diverse family experiences served by Candlelighters.
• Assist in planning, designing, organizing, promoting, and executing Family programs and events such as camp programs, holiday events, emotional support programming, etc.
• Coordinates event logistics, including venue selection, vender contracts, catering, equipment rentals, entertainment, and event setup and cleanup.
• Communicate with appropriate staff or contracted personnel regarding all design work and distribution of events materials, such as invitations, flyers, emails, texts, website, print and social media, and press release.
• Creates and maintains records for assigned events and other Candlelighters programming as assigned and assists with administrative tasks as needed.
• Helps collect and analyze data from events to evaluate success and identify opportunities for improvement and make recommendations for future events.
• Answers, screens, and directs phone calls in a polite and friendly manner.
• Works with staff, volunteers, and community partners to develop and implement creative ideas for new events, activities and family engagement that align with the organization's mission and goals.
• Assists the Chief Mission Delivery Officer and the CEO with all miscellaneous duties pertaining to Family Services efforts as directed.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:
• Ability to read, write, and speak English and Spanish.
• Strong multitasking and prioritization skills with the ability to work independently.
• Exceptional organizational skills and impeccable attention to detail.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and community partners.
• Excellent customer service and telephone etiquette with a welcoming approach.
• Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
• Strong follow-through and time-management skills.
• Ability to problem-solve and take initiative in a dynamic environment.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and basic database systems.
• Willingness to work occasional before or after normal business hours and weekends for
meetings and events.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
• BA/BS in nonprofit management, event management, human services, social work, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience).
• A minimum of two years' experience in event coordination, program management, nonprofit services, client services or related work.
• Experience working with volunteers, community partners, families or children in healthcare or social-service environments is a plus, but not required.
• Prior nonprofit experience is a plus, but not required.
TRAVEL
The position may require occasional overnight or extended travel.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Position requires a current, valid Driver's License, proof of authorization to work in the U.S., and
a background check. (Proof of auto liability insurance is required if driving personal vehicle for
Candlelighters' business.)

OTHER INFORMATION:
This is a full-time position with occasional evenings and weekends. All hours must be performed
in the office.
