Our client is seeking a Production Material Planner to support fast-moving aerospace and defense programs by optimizing inventory, reducing costs, and ensuring materials and components are available to meet demanding build and test schedules. This role partners closely with program, engineering, and operations teams in a highly innovative environment known for advanced laser, lidar, and laser-communication technologies, and a collaborative, creative culture that empowers people to do their best work. This position is onsite in Herndon, VA.
Work with program and project staff to optimize project inventory, minimize costs, and maintain smooth operations within the supply chain ensuring that raw materials and components are available when needed for production or distribution, and manage inventories to ensure that material resources are consistent with build and test schedules. Create and distribute reports to program staff and the purchasing department to communicate issues, deficiencies and potential schedule problems regarding materials and supply chain management.
Material Planner Responsibilities:
Determine required materials and assist with generating purchase orders utilizing CostPoint
Ensure consistent and adequate supply of materials necessary for production and rework
Coordinate with other departments regarding production goals, timelines, etc.
Support kitting operations ensuring build teams have the parts required for builds
Schedule and oversee the supply and delivery of materials and products
Liaison with operations, manufacturing, configuration management, and purchasing
Manage inventory issues, schedule changes, and cancellations
Assist with expediting vendor parts in coordination with the purchasing department
Keep project managers informed on the status of sub-assembly and assembly builds
Coordinate with program managers and stockroom to track revisions of new and in-shop builds
Manage Costpoint Inventory
Manage Manufacturing Order (MO) process
Assist and aid in company process / policy improvements and updates
Assist electronics assembly lab and Electrical Engineering Department in managing the build queue and build processes Minimum Qualification Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in business or logistics
Minimum 3 years relevant experience
Supply chain and\or vendor management experience
Strong negotiation and forecasting skills
Practical experience implementing continuous improvement methodologies
Experience with resource planning software, specifically Costpoint / Deltek, a plus
Able to manage and prioritize activities to effectively support multiple projects/tasks
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including work instructions
Experience with MS Office tools
U.S. citizenship is required
