Head Custodian
Position Function
Under direct supervision of the Director of Facilities, Business Manager and School Principal), to provide responsible daily custodial operations, maintaining a sanitary and safe facility for students, employees and the public; minimizing property damage, loss and liability exposure; ensuring that assignments are completed in a safe, proper and timely manner and overseeing and supporting assigned custodians in the performance of their assignments.
Essential Functions
Monitor and Resolve Work Orders: Regularly check the digital maintenance ticketing system to prioritize, track, and close out repair requests submitted by faculty and staff in a timely manner.
Perform Mechanical and Systems Repairs: Execute "on-the-spot" fixes for common school issues, including clogged toilets and sinks, flickering lights, or malfunctioning door hardware and lockers.
Conduct Building Envelope Maintenance: Complete requested repairs to the physical structure, such as patching drywall, replacing damaged ceiling tiles, and touch-up painting in high-traffic hallways and classrooms.
Execute Grounds and Safety Upkeep: Maintain outdoor safety by clearing debris from walkways, performing seasonal snow removal or salting, and ensuring playground equipment is in safe, working order.
Support Event Setup and Furniture Logistics: Move and arrange desks, chairs, and tables for cafeteria transitions, gym assemblies, and community events as dictated by the school's operational calendar.
Identify and Report Facility Needs: While not responsible for ordering, proactively identify safety hazards or large-scale repairs and report them to the Facilities Supervisor for parts procurement or external contracting.
Additional Duties
Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring a clean, safe work environment.

Equipment
Use hand tools of trade and related power equipment, including brooms, mops, floor cleaning and waxing machines, vacuum cleaners, snow blowers, shovels, power mower and hand tools.
Use of personal computer.
Safety Requirements
Follows all applicable safety rules, procedures and regulations governing the proper use of tools and power equipment used in the performance of duties.
Wears appropriate safety gear, including masks.
Must comply with school district's chemical hygiene program and follow MSDS sheets.
Travel Requirements
Frequent travel between schools, or between schools and the Central Office, is required.
Work Schedules
Must work standard schedule and overtime as needed.
Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards
Works in standard office and school building environments.
Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather conditions.
Exposure to cleaning chemicals, solvents and contaminated trash, grasses, pollens, etc.
Ladder climbing, digging, crawling, bending and lifting up to 50lbs.
