We are looking for a driven Electrical Engineer or Electrical Designer to contribute to a growing portfolio of commercial building design projects in Columbus, Ohio. This full-time role provides an opportunity to begin in a technical design capacity while developing the skills needed to progress into Project Engineer or Project Manager responsibilities over time.
The ideal candidate has experience designing electrical systems for commercial, office, retail, healthcare, or institutional buildings, along with a solid understanding of building infrastructure and collaborative engineering workflows. This position offers exposure to diverse projects and provides a supportive environment for professional growth within the engineering design field.
Key Responsibilities
Design electrical systems for commercial, office, retail, healthcare, and institutional facilities
Develop and coordinate power distribution systems, grounding, lighting layouts, and control systems
Prepare electrical drawings including schematics, panel schedules, and construction documentation
Work closely with architects, mechanical engineers, structural engineers, and project teams to ensure coordinated design solutions
Conduct site visits and field investigations to review existing conditions and verify project requirements
Apply National Electrical Code (NEC) standards and industry best practices to electrical designs
Prepare and update electrical specifications and technical documentation
Maintain productive relationships with internal teams, clients, and manufacturer representatives
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field preferred
Experience in commercial building electrical system design
Proficiency with AutoCAD (Revit experience preferred but not required)
Familiarity with electrical equipment, materials, and system components used in building design
Basic understanding of electrical calculations and building system analysis
Strong analytical and troubleshooting capabilities
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Ability to collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary engineering environment
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting healthcare or large-scale commercial projects
Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or interest in pursuing professional licensure
Knowledge of lighting control systems, emergency power systems, and energy-efficient design strategies
