We are looking for a unique candidate who is passionate about our mission and believes in the transformative power of cryptocurrency and blockchain technology. We seek a person eager to make a significant impact on the world, thrive under pressure, enjoy working with high-caliber colleagues, and actively pursue feedback for continual growth. If you're someone who embraces challenges and tackles complex problems head-on, we want you on our team.

Our culture is dynamic and intensive; it may not be for everyone, but if you aspire to shape the future alongside talented individuals who uphold high standards, this is your opportunity.

While many positions at Coinbase support remote work, we are not exclusively remote. In-person engagement is key throughout the year. Team and company-wide gatherings occur multiple times a year to foster collaboration and connection, and your participation is both expected and encouraged.

We collaborate closely with Product, Engineering, and Design to influence the roadmap and enhance user understanding. Through our expertise in analytics, experimentation, and advanced modeling, we derive actionable insights that directly contribute to the company's growth.

As a Lead Data Scientist on the Institutional team, you will help lay the groundwork for Coinbase's Institutional business. This includes developing models and frameworks to analyze fee structures, enhancing existing systems regarding Prime Broker Trading/Financing offerings, and participating in initiatives related to Custody, Web3, and Staking to assist Institutions in their DeFi journey, among other exciting projects.

Key Responsibilities:

Conduct in-depth analyses on complex and ambiguous business problems, translating your findings into actionable insights that direct the team's strategies.

Oversee a wide range of data and metrics, ensuring exceptional data visualization and presentation standards.

Lead code reviews, share your expertise in SQL and Python, and maintain high-quality ETL processes.

Uphold rigorous statistical standards within your team, ensuring that we engage in thorough experimentation and causal analysis that instills confidence among stakeholders.

What We're Looking For:

A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., Math, Statistics, Physics, or Computer Science) with 5+ years of relevant experience, or a PhD in a quantitative field with 3+ years of experience.

Demonstrable success in leading impactful data science projects tackling complex and ambiguous issues.

The ability to influence stakeholders by effectively communicating insights and storytelling using data.

Hands-on experience applying sophisticated modeling techniques to business challenges.

Proficient in SQL and Python, with a solid professional background.

Experience with digital products and the iterative development lifecycle.

Alignment with core cultural values: clear communication, positive energy, continuous learning, and efficient execution.
