Amazon Web Services is seeking a dedicated Mechanical Engineering Team Leader to oversee the Central Regions mechanical design team and contribute to a global engineering initiative responsible for the design and continuous improvement of our rapidly growing data center footprint. In this exciting role, you will manage a team of engineers who play a crucial role in every aspect of mechanical design, construction, operations, and maintenance for our global fleet of data centers. You will collaborate with discipline leads across multiple regions and engage with internal and external teams to define, design, develop, and document the essential mechanical features of our facilities, utilizing both prescriptive and performance-based design methods.

As a leader, your primary responsibilities will include guiding project-related work focused on cooling, heating, and plumbing systems for AWS data centers. You will be expected to coordinate mechanical system space requirements, utilities, equipment locations, and provide comprehensive construction specifications for all mechanical trades. Typically, you will oversee the development of detailed designs for HVAC, plumbing, and hydronic systems, while reviewing mechanical and plumbing drawings for compliance with code requirements and design standards.

As the subject matter expert on your team, you will be the go-to person for technical queries related to mechanical and plumbing systems. You will ensure the team is equipped with the necessary information to design our data centers according to our esteemed standards and that operational teams can efficiently maintain these systems to meet our objectives. Your collaboration will extend to internal and external stakeholders, including design teams, construction personnel, commissioning specialists, operations staff, vendors, and local authorities. AWS Infrastructure Services is responsible for the design, planning, delivery, and operation of AWS global infrastructure, ensuring the cloud remains operational. Our team handles all AWS data centers, maintaining the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment crucial for ensuring customers have uninterrupted access to the innovations they rely on. Key Responsibilities:

Lead the team and coordinate with internal and external partners supporting the data center projects.

Drive enhancements in design standards and project methodologies across the organization.

Work closely with third-party design vendors to review concept and ongoing designs for alignment with standards and local codes.

Provide high-quality mechanical engineering insights on various global projects, aligning designs with objectives.

Collaborate with construction, commissioning, and risk management teams to address information requests and engineering queries.

Oversee construction documents, ensure code compliance, and manage design and installation standards, including water supply evaluations and testing.

This role will require up to 25% travel.

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in engineering or related technical field.

Minimum of 5 years managing a team of engineers and a cumulative 10+ years of experience in design engineering or the construction industry with focus on mechanical systems, including fire suppression and life safety.

Licensed Mechanical Engineer.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with local codes, NFPA standards, ICC requirements, and other mechanical industry standards and procedures.

Strong knowledge of ICC codes and mechanical standards.

Experience in the construction of data centers, critical medical facilities, industrial projects, or large-scale power systems.

Ability to interpret construction documents across all trades (design drawings, specifications, etc.).

Familiarity with design review processes, specification, development of design standards, and submittal reviews.

Experience in performance-based mechanical design alternatives and advanced knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems commissioning.

Proficient in authoring white papers, technical documentation, training materials, and proposals for code modifications and alternative methods.

The annual base salary range for this position is $150,200.00 - $203,300.00 USD, depending on location. Your compensation package may also include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs).
