About the Role
We are seeking an innovative and skilled Web Software Developer to support our federal government client in the dynamic, fully remote role focused on the development, optimization, and maintenance of MicrobeTrace, an advanced bioinformatics tool for efficient cluster detection and characterization. While this is a remote position, candidates should be prepared for occasional on-site work in Atlanta, GA, as needed.
Responsibilities
Integrate new and existing bioinformatics tools and platforms to enhance functionality.
Optimize current visualizations for improved user experiences.
Develop and implement exciting new features in MicrobeTrace for network and phylogenetic analyses.
Create and launch a web-based version of MicrobeTrace to boost cluster detection efficiency.
Establish automated testing procedures using open-source tools.
Quickly and effectively maintain and troubleshoot the MicrobeTrace codebase.
Utilize project management tools like ZenHub to track development progress.
Enhance real-time response capabilities by efficiently integrating and visualizing data.
Train team members and partners at state and federal levels on new tools and platforms.
Communicate regularly with clients to provide updates on projects and showcase progress during team meetings.
Collaborate closely with a Bioinformatician to refine MicrobeTrace functionalities for users.
Perform additional tasks as needed.
Requirements
Minimum of 3 years' experience as a web software developer or full-stack developer.
Advanced proficiency in Angular, TypeScript, and JavaScript is required.
Familiarity with bioinformatics tools and platforms is advantageous.
Experience in developing and deploying web applications similar to MicrobeTrace is highly preferred.
Proficient in creating automated testing methods using open-source tools.
Ability to integrate and visualize complex data sets.
Hands-on experience with project management tools such as ZenHub.
Demonstrated problem-solving skills and strong analytical decision-making abilities.
Familiarity with technologies such as Azure, CSS, HTML, Tomcat, and Apache is desirable.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with meticulous attention to detail.
Capable of working collaboratively in a team environment.
Prior experience supporting clients like the CDC or similar US government agencies is a plus.
Must pass Federal background screening and obtain necessary government clearance.
Legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship is required.
Education and Training
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computational Media, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field is preferred; extensive relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree.
Physical Requirements
Ability to sit for extended periods while working on a computer, with the capability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
