Summary The Guidewire Claims engineering team builds cloud-native claims experiences that help property & casualty insurers handle high volumes of claims efficiently while delivering a modern, intuitive experience to end users.
You'll join Product Development & Operations (PDO), a global organization focused on secure, scalable, and reliable cloud operations and product development that delivers measurable value to customers.
Our team collaborates in small, empowered, cross-functional pods using modern Java, React, and cloud technologies.
As a Senior Full Stack Engineer, you will lead the design and development of scalable cloud services and web applications that power next-generation claims workflows for insurers worldwide.
You will apply deep Java and React expertise, modern architecture patterns, and strong testing practices to deliver resilient, high-quality features from inception through production.
This role is critical to advancing Guidewire's mission to transform how the world's P&C insurers do business.
Job Description What you'll do * Design, build, and own end-to-end features across our Claims platform, from REST/gRPC APIs and microservices to responsive React user interfaces, with a focus on performance, reliability, and security.
* Collaborate in a small, agile, cross-functional team (engineering, product, UX, architecture) to refine requirements, define technical solutions, and deliver iterative value in production.
* Apply modern engineering practices-TDD/BDD, code reviews, CI/CD, and comprehensive unit/integration testing-to maintain and evolve a healthy, high-quality codebase.
* Implement and refine microservices and data models using Java, Spring, and relational databases (e.g., MySQL/Oracle), and integrate with NoSQL or other data stores where appropriate.
* Design and evolve secure, well-documented REST or gRPC APIs that power our cloud services and partner integrations, following SOLID and hexagonal architecture principles.
* Lead technical design for complex features, provide hands-on mentorship to less-experienced engineers, and champion best practices in coding standards, observability, and operational readiness.
* Partner closely with product and operations teams within PDO to support Guidewire's FY26 priorities around operational excellence, cloud reliability, and AI-powered product innovations for Claims.
* At Guidewire, we foster a culture of curiosity, innovation, and responsible use of AI-empowering our teams to continuously leverage emerging technologies and data-driven insights to enhance productivity and outcomes.
What you'll bring Required * Demonstrated ability to embrace AI and apply it to your current role as well as data-driven insights to drive innovation, productivity, and continuous improvement.
* 5+ years of professional full-stack software development experience, including ownership of production services or applications.
* Strong proficiency in Core Java and object-oriented design, including experience applying SOLID and hexagonal architecture principles in real-world systems.
* Expertise in JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML5, and CSS, with commercial experience building complex, production-grade applications in React.
* Experience designing and implementing REST or gRPC APIs and building microservices running on a major cloud platform (AWS, GCP, or Azure). * Strong understanding of continuous integration and continuous delivery, including build pipelines, automated testing (unit/integration), and deployment best practices.
* Experience with open-source frameworks such as Spring, Hibernate, and related Java ecosystem libraries, plus solid understanding of relational databases (e.g., MySQL, Oracle). * Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the confidence to share and defend ideas based on merit and the humility to learn from others in a fast-paced, agile environment.
Preferred * BS/MS in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
* Familiarity with NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, CouchDB) and event-driven or streaming architectures.
* Background building secure software and applying web security best practices (authentication, authorization, OWASP considerations, secure coding). * Prior experience in large-scale, cloud-based SaaS products or enterprise platforms.
* Experience mentoring other engineers, leading technical design discussions, or driving cross-team technical initiatives.
* Exposure to insurance, financial services, or other highly regulated industries is a plus.
