The Atlantic is looking for a Senior Editor to oversee the team making a new video podcast hosted by David Brooks. The podcast will explore the moral, social, and philosophical underpinnings of human decency-with a particular focus on the role that institutions play in shaping communities and ideologies. We are looking for someone who can creatively engage on these ideas and who will ensure we are meeting high editorial and video production standards. They will be responsible for working with David to conceptualize episodes, and they will manage a team of two producers and provide direct editing support on episodes. Candidates should be deeply curious and excited about the evolution of video podcasts, and want to be engaged in this expanding format. This person will report to The Atlantic's senior supervising editor. The role will at times include night, early-morning, and weekend work.

Responsibilities include:

Manage a team of two producers

Coach and guide host

Edit episodes

Work closely with editors and The Atlantic's fact-checking team to ensure accuracy in episodes

Work with host on scripts, questions and re-writes, providing notes on drafts

Pitch ideas and help shape pitches from other members of the team

Optimize video content for discoverability on YouTube and other platforms, in coordination with The Atlantic's audience team

Manage multiple episodes on deadline while maintaining high quality

Oversee the show's workflow, and team resourcing

Edit corresponding episode articles for the site

Qualifications of the ideal candidate:

8+ years of experience in podcast video or digital news videos

Proven record of successfully managing teams to meet tight deadlines

Experience working with Premiere, Final Cut Pro, or other video editing software

Experience working with talent

Experience editing conversational shows

Impeccable news judgment and understanding of journalism ethics

A collaborative approach to creation and an independent work ethic

Strong leadership skills and an interest in mentoring

Salary Minimum: $105,000; Salary Maximum: $180,000

This position is based in Washington D.C.
