Job Title: Fiber Technician
Job Description
The Entry Level Fiber Tester plays a crucial role in supporting field operations by performing quality and performance testing on newly installed or repaired fiber optic infrastructure. The position involves working as part of a field crew on large-scale builds, aerial/underground fiber construction, and FTTH deployments. No prior fiber experience is required, as training will be provided for motivated candidates looking to build a technical career.
Responsibilities
Perform fiber optic testing using tools such as OTDR, power meters, and visual fault locators (training provided).
Assist with documenting test results, cable routes, loss measurements, and project notes.
Support field crews working on fiber installation, splicing, jetting, and construction projects.
Troubleshoot basic signal or continuity issues under guidance from experienced technicians.
Follow all safety procedures related to fiber handling, equipment use, and jobsite operations.
Maintain equipment cleanliness and testing accuracy.
Work cooperatively with crews.
Represent the company professionally while working on customer sites.
Essential Skills
Fiber optic knowledge
Cabling and cable handling
Use of test equipment
Troubleshooting abilities
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
Willingness to work long shifts in varying outdoor conditions
Mechanical or technical aptitude
Ability to lift 50 lbs and work on feet for extended periods
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience in telecom, construction, low voltage, cable installation, or other skilled trades
Basic understanding of networking, wiring, or field service work
Any relevant certifications (FOA, ETA, Network+, etc.)—but not required

Work Environment
