Material Handler I

General Purpose

Set up each operator with the required materials for production, such as paper, inks, and other supplies, based on job tickets and production schedules.

Essential Job Functions

• Review job tickets and production schedules to organize and prepare material loads

• Operate the aerator effectively

• Pull, stage, and put away product and supplies for machines as needed

• Operate pallet jacks safely and efficiently

• Communicate effectively with machine operators

• Follow instructions and work closely with operators as required

• Break down required product and materials for machine runs

• Set up machines with the correct materials needed for each job

• Review job bag instructions to verify accuracy

• Stock and unstock material loads

• Maintain assigned department areas, including sweeping and emptying trash as needed

• Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Intermediate math skills

• Demonstrated accuracy, reliability, sound decision-making, time management, and self-motivation

• Ability to read, speak, and communicate effectively in English

• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals

• Ability to pass a color vision test

• Reliable attendance and dependability

• Ability to perform all essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation

Safe Work Requirements

• Wear required PPE, including safety glasses, hearing protection, safety shoes, gloves, hard hats, and task-specific PPE

• Comply with Smurfit WestRock employment policies, handbook, and workplace safety rules and procedures

• Submit safety concerns, safety work orders, and incident reports as required

• Follow site leadership direction as part of the Safety Excellence System

• Complete all required training through the Learning and Development system
