Database Operations Specialist

Position Description

Your future duties and responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership & Incident Management:

· Lead and coordinate the daily operations of the database team, ensuring high availability and performance of all database systems (Oracle, MSSQL, RDS).

· Manage and triage problem tickets and incidents; ensure timely follow-up, root cause analysis, and resolution.

· Oversee change and release processes to minimize risk to production environments.

· Participate in on-call rotations, leading incident resolution during major outages or database-related issues.

Database Platform Management:

· Provide deep technical leadership on Oracle and MSSQL platforms, including AWS RDS services.

· Administer and monitor Oracle GoldenGate replication environments.

· Ensure reliable backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies across all supported platforms.

· Apply Configuration as Code (CaC) and automation techniques to streamline provisioning, patching, upgrades, and monitoring tasks.

Automation & Continuous Improvement:

· Lead database automation efforts to reduce manual operations and improve deployment consistency using tools such as Liquibase.

· Promote version-controlled, repeatable, and auditable database deployments through Liquibase integration with CI/CD pipelines.

· Use scripting tools (e.g., Python, Bash, Ansible) to automate routine DBA tasks.

· Promote DevOps/SRE practices by integrating observability, monitoring, and reliability into database operations.

· Identify and implement performance tuning opportunities to improve database efficiency and cost optimization.

Collaboration & Strategic Support:

· Work closely with the DB manager to align database operations with business and IT strategies.

· Collaborate cross-functionally with system admins, SREs, developers, and infrastructure teams.

· Act as a liaison during audits, ensuring adherence to security, compliance, and best practice standards.

· Provide mentoring, guidance, and workload planning for DBA team members.

Required qualifications to be successful in this role

· 5–10 years of experience in enterprise-level database administration and support (preferably in banking or financial services).

· Strong expertise in Oracle and MSSQL, with hands-on experience managing cloud-based RDS deployments.

· Proficient in Oracle GoldenGate setup, troubleshooting, and replication strategies.

· Experience with automation/scripting (Python, Bash, Ansible), and Liquibase for database change management.

· Familiarity with observability and monitoring tools (e.g., CloudWatch, Oracle Enterprise Manager, Dynatrace).

· Understanding of Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles applied to database environments.

· Strong problem-solving and communication skills with the ability to lead cross-functional teams.

· Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.

Preferred Certifications (Optional but a Plus):

· Oracle Certified Professional (OCP)

· AWS Certified Database – Specialty

· Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate

Nice to Have Knowledge:

· Service NOW

· Dynatrace

· Linux including Redhat

· Linux System administration experience

CGI is providing a reasonable estimate of the pay range for this role. The determination of this range includes factors such as skill set level, geographic market, experience and training, and licenses and certifications. Compensation decisions depend on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $65,000–$115,000. This role is a future opportunity.
