Position Summary: The MCC Mozambique Program Accountant provides timely, collaborative, service-oriented support to program staff on all financial matters relevant to program implementation, including supporting all stages of program development and implementation from proposal budget preparation; on-going budget and expense reporting, tracking budgets to results, accruals and projections; to a program’s financial close-out, while keeping the program compliant with MCC requirements and while compliant to Mozambican laws governing financial accounting and taxation laws.
The MCC account will work closely with the Program Officers, Admin and logistics team and Country Representative to deliver the Mozambique program.
Qualifications: Commitment to MCC Mozambique’s values Five+ years of experience in related work in Accounting and Financial management.
Experience working within the INGO environment necessary.
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Competencies: Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, or Business Administration Prior work experience of 5 years with international humanitarian organizations, non-governmental organizations, or government institutions/organizations in a multicultural setting is an advantage.
Certified accountant (a distinct advantage) Ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of staff and varying levels of financial capacity.
Ability to train staff in accounting and basic budgeting English fluency is required Familiarity with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage Pastel.
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Advanced Excel, PowerPoint, Email, Outlook) and knowledgeable in cash flow and forecasting (a distinct advantage) Attention to detail, ability to organize work in a methodical way.
Ability to keep confidential information.
Mozambican National Exhibit a commitment to a personal Christian faith Supervision This position is supervised by and reports to the country Representative/ Director.
Key Duties: Duties and Responsibilities Specific areas of support will include, but are not limited to: • Ensure partners’ financial reviews are done and assist partners in collating, verifying, and editing all their reports.
• Manage the MCC Faswin database as assigned by the MCC Mozambique Representatives.
• Provide assistance to partners on budgeting.
• Act as a financial advisor to Country Representative(s). • Prepare financial reports monthly.
• Prepare monthly payroll, provident fund, and income tax payments for staff.
• Work with the Office Administrator to ensure timely payment of bills.
• Provide monthly MCC reports in FASWin and quarterly MCC reports.
• Keep up to date with current government and banks’ laws and practices related to NGO financial matters.
• Prepare information for and assist with annual audits or spot-checks.
• Work with partners on capacity building on financial matters.
• Develop and keep up-to-date records and checklists for quick reference on financial matters.
• Ensure financial files are maintained confidentially and organized for easy access for program staff or country representatives.
• Balance cash box monthly with the assistance of country representatives.
• Perform bookkeeping tasks as needed.
• Assist with other duties that may be assigned by the Mozambique Representatives.
MCC Mozambique Team Support • Demonstrate a cooperative spirit and function as an active member of the MCC Mozambique team through regular updates and attendance at all team functions.
